Hi everybody!

I've got a client that we installed a decal/wrap about a year and a half to two years ago and it's looking nasty on the hood. No idea what's going on here...

He's parked outside in Florida 24/7, so I'm sure that's not helping.

Last year it was kind of hazy on the hood at a show and I used some Turtle wax cleaner wax and it shined up great. I know he's washed it a couple times with 'chemical guys' unknown product, and has had it professionally detailed. I read that carnauba can degrade things faster, but not sure if that's what's going on here, or if anything had carnuba in it.

He seems to think it's from the ink, but I haven't seen it in person.

Orajet 3551, oraguard 290, and printed on a Mimaki UCJV300.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hey L&B,
First issues is using calendared vinyl for car wraps. At least your laminate is cast, but you should be using entirely cast vinyl.
Also horizontal surfaces have a much shorter lifespan/warranty especially when your in the Florida. Each manufacturer has a warranty map with zones. The further south you go (more UV exposure) the shorter the warranty basically.
I doubt the issue is with the cleaning products. We have used chemical guys cleaners on matte and gloss wraps with no issue. A car cover or parking under cover will improve longevity.

Ya that vinyl not going to last on a horizontal surface in Fla...even premium quality cast vinyl that is actually meant for wraps is only warranted for about 3-5years on horizontal surfaces...only lasts half as long as vertical...

It's the vinyl. Is it laminated? If the vinyl ain't 3M or Avery, you might be saving a buck. Then this kinda stuff happens.

Horizontal surfaces take one heck of a beating in our neck of the woods. Even with IJ180 +8518 I wouldn't expect more than 3.5 to 4 years (if you wanna pull it off in one piece). That's how often I have to replace my hood graphics, and every 5 years on the sides. Granted, I have a black truck so that doesn't help, but the artwork itself isn't very dark.

100% I completely agree.
