warranty??

Stacey K

I like making signs
I don't state any kind of warranty. Most of my signs (or all that I see) are still looking great 7-8 years later so I've not had any issues with needing a warranty. The only issue I had is with the 4x8 acm boards at one of the baseball diamonds tearing in half but this forum determined it was improper installation and not the sign material itself.

For several years I used Signs365 IJ35 with the 2mil lam for my signs. Now I print myself using the same or a similar good vinyl and cast lamination. I usually trim the vinyl a tad from the edge or wrap the edges. Making sure the edges are down tight, if possible I don't print to the edge and might leave a white outline (depends on the design). If you use quality products and do your best installation work, you should not really need a warranty.

The only issue would be for fading, and I tell people they should get at least 7 years before any fading, and that's held more than true for me. The sun is different for you in Texas so maybe Texasignmaker can chime in.

Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.
For printed signs, we tell our clients 3-5 years on the average. If the sign faces the sun all day, fading can start within 2 years for printed cast vinyl and laminate. As for workmanship, we base that on how the extra holes put in the sign after it leaves our shop.

My disclosure...

Payment or issuance of purchase order implies acceptance of the following terms. 1-Year warranty unless
otherwise noted above. Temporary signs, corrugated plastic and banners are not warrantied. Warranty exclusions: Acts of God, vandalism, misuse, pre-existing damage, accidental damage by others, work performed
by others and buyer modifications or negligence. Normal wear and tear is expected and is not considered a warrantable failure. Fading or lifting or reduction of gloss and contrast is considered the result of normal wear
and tear. Files / artwork used for production are available for $275 per file. Digging: We will submit dig requests to 811 for underground line location and marking. You're required to locate utilities that Texas811
does not cover in addition to any privately owned underground lines such as irrigation with marked spray paint. We are not responsible for damage to unmarked lines. Customer or Vendor supplied materials: We do not
warranty, and are not responsible for damage, failure or the replacement costs associated with graphics or materials not manufactured by us. Vinyl Removal Damage Waiver: We cannot be held responsible for
damage caused during the installation or the removal of vinyl graphics. Those include knife marks, burns, and scratches. Flaking or peeling paint/finish caused by road debris, bugs, pressure washing, poor repair work,
accidents, etc. Pre-existing paint damage that has been hidden or covered by the graphic. Ghost images that are transferred from the graphic to the paint or substrate surface. Tool marks, scratches, scrapes caused
by the removal process. These typically occur when a graphic has been left on too long and the graphic becomes permanently bonded to the paint. Chemical burns or stains caused by adhesive removal products or
other cleaning agents. The chemicals used for vinyl/adhesive removal are usually safe for most finishes. Single-stage painted finishes, powder-coat finishes, oxidized surfaces, plastics, and rubber are more susceptible
to damage. We are trained in removing graphics and will do their best to not harm the substrate surface during the removal process. Balance not paid within 30 days will incur interest of 10% per year. Returned check
fee $37.50. We appreciate your business!

I'll cover my permanent signs for 1 year. Weather events are excluded. One of my competitors brags about 5 year warranty. I've only had a handful of warranty issues come up, so it's not something that's common. I think the biggest thing is communicating the limits of temporary signage (banners/coro) and prints. (4-5 years).

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
For vehicles I provide a standard 5/50 warranty; 5 minutes or 50mph, whichever occurs first. For other signs, it's just 5 minutes.

As I keep saying. "Do you see a vast vinyl and sheet manufacturing facility attached to my building?
Sadly I cannot give warranties on materials or substrates I have no control of.

I have found issues with suppliers materials which even they will not accept liability for, so how can I be liable?

For sure. In most cases a warranty or satisfaction guarantee isn't a good idea, unless your pricing reflects the additional risk you take on. I know some very successful shops that stand behind their work - even when the failure is out of their control. They "Handle it" without giving excuses. But they are high touchpoint shops that charge accordingly, demanding (and getting) 2-3x more than the other shops around.

Someone has to charge the most in town...
