I have experienced my e-mail going down as well as my web site 3 or 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Is this normal? (obviously not)
How do you guys deal with issues like this? I feel like a prisioner to these people who you can only email to, as only they can call you if they deem it so.

Move your site... Is your site generating a huge amount of traffic that may cause the errors or is it just bad performance overall?

Could also be upgrades/service interuptions outside of the hosting co's control.

Some hosts put 1000's of sites onto 1 server. If the server is overloaded which could be because 1 or more of the sites is getting a ton of traffic, or just eating up a lot of resources, it will cause the whole server to be unresponsive, ie your website and email.

Could be a ton of other things as well. DDOS attacks on another site that is hosted on your server or a server near your server behind the same router.

Call your and ask what is going on.

One time this happened to us and it turned out that a large website on another server near our server was under a DDOS attack. They were able to continue the router so it didn't affect us, but took them about an hour. Another Time I had a site on a server and the data center Blew up. Exploded, not kidding.

You just don't know whats going on until you call and talk to the techs.

Ask how many other sites are on your server. Ask to be moved to a lower use server or switch hosts that don't put 1000's of sites on a server. I recommend Web Host 4 Life. They keep their sites per server to a minimum.

I'd find another host.
Right now since there are so many out there offering web hosting for a very low cost, customer service and reliability is what most people are looking for when they choose their host.
If there's no contact number for live tech support - dump 'em.

It's a pain to move your site, but in the long run it's better than not having your site available.

I switched hosts about a year ago from someone who would only communicate through emails, was having ftp connection issues, my site was hacked and on and on.

I found someone with a better price, great affiliate program, and when I CALLED to complain that my site was slow, they moved me to a different server - problem solved.
They even called me a couple of days later to make sure that the issue had been resolved.
