Question What Degree Blade

Graphic Extremes

Knows To Little
I have a Summa S2 Tangential cutter and I was wondering what degree blade everyone is using to cut gold engine turned vinyl. Not getting smooth results like I would expect.. Gold engine turn vinyl has been printed and laminated..

brand new 36 degree blade at the slowest speed the machine will cut is what I am using. Set blade depth and pressure many times from test cutting.. Doesn't make any difference.. I am stumped on this one

If you're only doing a single cut, you might try doing 2-3 cuts instead, and see how that works. I do 2 cuts as a rule, even for "regular" laminated stickers.

really? i do 1 pass at like 65 pressure on laminated IJ35 and cuts perfect every time.

I've got a couple identical S2's that behave pretty much the same. I can cut the vinyl only, unlaminated, at 65 pressure. But to cut through the whole thing is usually around 300 (laminate, vinyl, paper backing.) The first hour of a brand new blade might be closer to 200, but it quickly settles in higher as the blade dulls a tiny bit.

I find doing just a single cut narrows the window of how precise you have to be with the settings, whereas hitting it twice allows a slightly wider range of acceptable depth and pressure. 2-3 cuts also sort of "finished" the cut cleaner than a single one. Similar to using an exacto and straightedge. No fuzzies.
