I have a VG2-540 and a VG3-540 and have no issues at all. We did have issues a couple years ago with banding on the VG2 with blues but nothing else. We print wraps on the VG3 everyday and they turn out great. We run Versaworks with both printers.
I have had my Kongsberg X24 for almost 3 years and love it. Only down a handful of times. Their support is good as they have talked us through issues. I have preventative maintenance done every year and that helps too.
We had a Roland XC-540 for many years and it was a work horse. Finally retired it an got another Roland VG2 and then a year later got a VG3. The VG3 is hands down my favorite. It runs all the time without issues. The VG2 had banding issues.
I would sub it out to B2sign. They can do a single layer for daytime or a double layer for nighttime. I've got an Agfa and print white color on translucent vinyl
I had the same issue with my VG2 when it was under warranty. They replaced the head along with all of the lines and many other parts. I still have issues especially with long prints of solid blue backgrounds,

Wow that's crazy. Everyday we flatbed print on Max Metal and then laminate with Arlon cast laminate and then router cut on the Kongsberg with the graphics facing down. No issues at all.
