Yes and no. It should require a similar calibrating process that is done when swapping a printhead. Power supply values correspond to the resistance value on the printhead (which are relatively different on each printhead) and should require calibration using a multimeter.
I have not done this...
Very nice, glad you found a solution!
The pictures you supplied covers an area to be mindful of; most of our pinched wire issues were right in that spot. Have had to replace several wiring harnesses over the years (which sucks by the way). Being gentle with the cable ties pays dividends. The...
Is the printhead making that horribly loud grinding/squealing noise when it actuates foil up and down?
If it is noisily failing to make it all the way up and down, and then prompts the error code, you could be having a Z-axis homing error. Get that noise resolved quickly as it will burn out...
Check with your supplier if others are getting issues with the same lot # first (if this is the case, please share the lot #).
Looks like foil drive resistance causing vertical banding. Liner could be defective and has too much friction/grab, or, heat setting is too hot and the liner is...
Power supply is likely finished unless you are a wizard with soldering and electronics. Jeff is correct, watch what ya touch in there, it can kill you. Your video is showing some kind of short circuit.
Were you using a surge protector for the printer?
Best to treat these printers like a high...
Businesses don't often list that part on their site for various reasons. Best to call and inquire if you are wanting to purchase brand new, just keep the serial # for the unit handy.
This company is really great to work with and relatively close to you in Illinois...
Couple quick questions:
Have you compared the old blade to the new and checked for differences? (noticeably longer/shorter, different manufacturers, etc.)
What force/pressure setting do you have the dial on the plotter head set to?
Do you have an image available?
Is it consistently 0.025" or does it fluctuate a bit? Also does is it different if your print is only a few columns vs a larger several yard long print?
I have run into similar issues but need more details.
Not all of the adapters are the same, we all wish it wasn't the case but these are the penalties of older equipment. Try the adapter Joe House linked higher up in the thread. That will be the most inexpensive option.
With the plotter powered on, manually attempt to move the carriage along the y-axis. How much resistance there is will be a large indicator. It will beep at you a lot once you trip a y-axis overload by pushing it too far, stop if it beeps and be very gentle while doing this.
If there is...
Hi Everybody, my bulletproof Gerber Edge FX has finally hit a snag. When I go to print a job, it lowers the cartridge and advances the foil but doesn't printing anything. After a few seconds it raises the cartridge and gives me a cartridge error. It was happening now and again but now it seems...
I'm assuming your in the UK or Europe as you're working with Spandex. Here in the US you can occasionally find a film that is not made for a Gerber system (vehicle wrap vinyls for example) that you can request to be converted. They'll charge a fee to get the holes punched and slit the roll to...
Your choice of media is going to be dependent upon your expectations. I have no experience with the JV400 film so it is hard to compare it to a Gerber product without somebody else chiming in that has experience with both.
Standard spot black may not be enough if you want it to be exceptionally...
Has it made any loud humming/buzzing noises when you first turn the machine on or when it is moving the caddy up and down to print? Might be having a Z-axis issue
Does the print come off with scotch tape or application tape on the section the print where it "fixed itself"?
Normally getting a line back by cleaning is from removing accumulated buildup on the printhead that was blocking energy transference. Some third party foil liners will leave a residue...
Are you trying to make the piece in the attached image? This one looks a bit faded. Referencing the ancient spectratone book: Transparent Orange overprinting Orange or vice-versa is a good bet. You may want to back it with White print.
Any luck with turning the sensor off?
Ran into a similar issue a while back. You can usually tell if the foil motor is going out by listening to it using the slew button with no foil inserted. If the motor makes a noticeable cadence, the internal gears may be wearing out. If the motor has a...
Jburns has the best suggestion. Plotter doctor does great work.
If you need to clean those in the future try using a slightly damp cotton rag and then clean off any bits left behind.
If the roller is in really bad shape you can use a product called "Rubber Renue." Smells terrible but it...
