  1. Design fees and payment upfront

Unless it's something quick and simple, like 30 minutes or so, $50 is not enough for most designs.
  2. Design fees and payment upfront

I usually give them 3 Choices; 1# Free quote, no design. #2 Free quote, design fee, start designing, give them a vector file of the design, or JPG if it's for printing. #3 Free quote, start the job at 50% down, design and build the sign. The design is always included in the sign cost unless I am...

Most of the time, I use 1.5'' 15# and sometimes 2'' 15#. The Davis and Edward jones signs are two thicknesses of 1.5'' laminated to make a 3'' thick sign. The "ALday Howell sign is two thicknesses of 1.5'' for the tan/brown panel and the grey ellipses on both sides are another 1.5''. Total 6''...

No, mine is much thicker than .035. At least .045 but it looks like 1/16'' which would be .063. And it's solid wire; not flux core. Yes you place it right against the substrate. When you have it within 1/8'' or so of the depth you're after, take the frame off and blast without it. This will...

I used heavy gauge stainless steel MIG welding wire. It won't rust and will probably last you a lifetime. The reason I used stainless was because i was concerned about flecks of steel rusting through the paint/s should any become embedded. Not sure if that's a real issue but the upside of that...

    Sandblasted redwood with gold leaf

This is another HDU job done with the grain frame. These were 10' long so the frame had to be moved several times. Not a fun procedure.
  9. Edward Jones

This another I did on the router using a "chip carved" texture background. I actually like the look better than sandblasted and I don't have to breathe anymore of that dangerous silica.

Signfoam. It was done with my home-built grain frame. The Davis sign was over 15 years old when that photo was taken. we had just cleaned it and added new paint. Paints fade over time but they don't split, crack and peel on HDU like they do on wood; at least not from my quite lengthy experience...

The late payment just landed in my bank so I shot them the email draft with the waiver.

It was an old Joy had a 4-cylinder international engine. If I remember right it pumped about 125 cfms. Now I just use the two shop compressors which put out about 38 together

I sold my all of my commercial sandblasting rig; 600lb pot on a trailer, 4 cylinder engine screw compressor and Bullard respirator system, said I was getting out of it for good. But one of my good clients, another sign shop, along with CNC work, kept occasionally ordering sandblast jobs so I...

Thank you. Whether they do or not, I intend to send an email or call the local financial advisor, after this is completed, and thank him for his kind and conscientious help. He and his staff have been super nice.
  17. Declining jobs based on moral/ethical grounds

I have refused to do signs for alcohol establishments, off color or morally offensive words etc. I won't even do "peeing Calvins".

Ok, here's a revised invoice with a late fee clause at bottom. Should I word it any differently?
  19. Edward Jones

Ok they just sent this.... They shorted me fees for the last 11 days but $28 bucks isn't worth squabbling over. As soon as it clears my bank, I'll send their waiver, it's already signed and saved. Just shoot the email over and do what I promised.

#1, They were sent a quote for $5033. They approved the job, no mention of a "waiver". #2. The job was finished November 30, 2021. I submitted an invoice. Afterwards they sent an email with 3 attachments; one was about "covid 19 compliance" another was a request for a w9 and the third outlined...
