  1. small UV flatbed choice

I was looking at the CET, I don't think they will fit through the door. Its in a thick concrete support wall, can't make it bigger, opens into a 20ft square room that is ideal. I'm also lookiing at the Mimaki jf 1631
  2. small UV flatbed choice

Looking at getting a flatbed UV to supplement my solvent printer and stop outsourcing to suppliers that print on the "fast" setting. I have read the brochures, shook sales hands, but I need some real world advice. My constraints are: Price, sub 100k (as sub as possible) Size, has to fit...
  3. What do you give your select customers for the holidays?

Lindt chocolates, we go to the factory store and buy big lose boxes of them, nicely package them in display boxes and send them out. We have a lot of corporate customers and these go down great in the offices round christmas... okay and there is some "wastage" as they are getting packed....mmmm
  4. GLOSS or MATTE -- The Million Dollar Question

we use gloss and matt lam as needed...but I have heard things about the matt... does it take the color better? is it worth a trip to the dark side? I know it says don't, but please debate!
  5. magnetic for VersaCamm

Ditto for the ij35, lam and and mount. Its only one extra step and it means you can use much better magnet

Well you got that one totally wrong!
  8. Versaworks timeout

Just to close off this thread, It was the latest update to Versaworks. I reinstalled to an earlier one and now it all works (on all three computers). lost a days printing, a little hair and a little faith in Roland.
  9. "now processing" message during cutting

This is exactly one of the issues I'm dealing with today. I'm getting it on long prints. Something is powering down or timing out, but nothing has been changed on the network.
  10. Versaworks timeout

No I had the latest, 4.43. I think my problem came when I ran the latest update. The main RIP stopped working so I went to the backup, Its an old and slow XP, but in a dumn move I upgraded that too. I then went to one of the design computers, Fresh install there, but I installed the latest...
  11. Versaworks timeout

Further to this, I updated all 3 versaworks. Not a single one will even RIP a job now. As soon as I click RIP it goes to the queue and locks up at 0%. This is on both XP and system 7. I'll try reinstalling an earlier version, but this has stopped me dead. Not a happy camper
  12. What are your pet peeves

Design brief from a customer who wants me to design something before they decide whether to place an order or not. Design requests that want an image so specific that only a photoshoot can come up with it. "I want a little girl with red hair and chewing gum standing outside a burning house...
  13. Versaworks timeout

I have just reinstalled versaworks after some corruption and every second job prints half-way, stops then drops out of the production queue like it was completed. The VP540 just halts and shows "processing job". I'm thinking it's either the printer or the nework because I have tried three...
  14. Printing and cutting long decals

As above, slow the cut right down and clean the pinch rollers. I had a similar issue with a 15ft vehicle decal, part of the problem was the backing sheet being so smooth. I slowed the knife right down, cleaned the rollers and took the vinyl off the roll (I had to lam anyway) so there was no...
  15. Roland Service Technician?

Is never cheap though. a callout for an hour and a half drive to my location doesn't leave much change out of 500 bucks. The best thing is to get hold of the service manual and stock up on spare parts.
  16. window perf

to laminate or not? I'm just not happy with any solution; No lam fades, fills with dirt, water and ice, but goes on easily. Ordinary lam looks great...from the outside, can't see through it though. Optically clear lam is great, but so thin that you easily get a tiny dome balloon over...
  17. Holy%%^$ never, ever seen this happen before!!!!

one last thought, with ...something lifting off the vinyl, it is going to compromise the tak on the black? e a shame if the back slides right off again. I would probably do what you are doing and wait and see, and yes I would let the customer know too.
  18. Holy%%^$ never, ever seen this happen before!!!!

I guess a bad day at the mill then. A couple of months ago I had some bad rolls we had to eat, Supplier replaced the material, but not the time and other costs. Question is with the job half done, do you go backwards or forwards? When you wipe off the colour does it get lighter?
  19. Big Squeegee Lamination Question

Just a note on this, I mainly use Oracal Laminates, great to machine laminate, but hard with the BS. Its down to the backing paper. I agree with the practice part, I messed up a lot at the beginning. A skill worth aquiring.
  20. Work table tops

ditto getting 4-5 years hard use out of a mat, then flipping it over and working on the other side. You must be using a router on yours. (I did actually ruin mine with a router).
