  1. Wood Type Font ID Request

I can't seem to identity two of the typefaces used in the attached image, the "Las" script and "Catrinas" wood type lettering. I've seen the typeface used for "Catrinas" before. I thought it might be on DaFont or a similar site; nothing turned up in the "western" category that matched.
  2. What's the worst file you've been given to print?

The City of Prattville's seal "concept" is pretty terrible: a bunch of complicated seals inside a larger seal. It reminds me of those Matryoshka dolls (the Russian tea dolls that stack inside of each other). Usually it is a committee of not-creative people who cook up ideas like that. "The logo...
  3. Outsourcing!

Just a word of warning: there are only so many sign companies that have fabrication shop space, offices, install/service trucks, etc that are willing to take "outsourced" work from competing "sign companies." There are even fewer who are willing to do such work for dirt cheap pay. In our case...
  4. Signlab files to flexi

I'm pretty sure you will have to use a "generic" intermediate file format, such as EPS. Unless I missed something Flexi can't directly open or import SignLab files. I've heard SignLab can import Flexi FS files (but I don't know how accurate that claim may be).
  5. What's the worst file you've been given to print?

A bunch of these "designers" trying to do graphics work as a side-hustle enjoy passing themselves off as "professionals" when spamming their services. If we're talking about professionalism and credentials/experience, they don't have the muscles needed to lift my jock strap. And their...
  6. What's the worst file you've been given to print?

Certain features in the artwork have me pretty much convinced the "designer" actually did create the artwork in a vector-based application. Also, usually when I see "logos" that are created using Adobe Photoshop (or another pixel-based image editing application) the "designers" often go nuts...
  7. People asking for logos...I'm getting irritated

Yeah, I'm not too keen on sending art files directly to some "t-shirt company" that's moving into selling banners (and then maybe selling more and more sign products). It's one thing to send a vector logo to a specific customer, particularly one that has an on-going relationship with your sign...
  8. What's the worst file you've been given to print?

In this case I'm pretty sure the client has already paid for the creation of her artwork. The "designer" person is keeping possession of the best quality, vector version and only providing pixel-based versions of various fixed sizes to anyone else. I think that's stupid. It puts the client on...
  9. Computerized Cutters for channel letters, Beware

Reoccurring equipment costs are a nature of the sign business. This past week we had to buy a new laminator because our old Seal unit developed a problem with one of the rollers -a problem we paid a couple grand to fix not even 2 years ago. The replacement: a new Kala Mistral 1650 65" unit. Our...
  10. What's the worst file you've been given to print?

Moving files on/off a phone fast & easy is one reason I've been in the Android camp. If I connect my iPad to my computer the only thing the iPad shows in Windows File Explorer is the DCIM folder. When my phone is connected to a PC I can see any folder on the phone in Windows File Explorer and...
  11. What's the worst file you've been given to print?

We frequently receive garbage quality files which customers expect us to print in large format or even use to make lighted signs. It happens so often that it's really difficult to think of any one example that could rank as the worst file. PDFs that are not edit-friendly are common. Some simply...
  12. Thoughts on sharing vector wrap files...

IMHO, you don't give away your design time. Either charge for it directly as a line item on the invoice or work the design time fee into the total cost of the vehicle wrap. Different sign companies have their own ways of doing business and some policies can vary depending on the client (repeat...
  13. Top 5 Signage Mistakes

The original version of Papyrus, designed by Chris Costello for Letraset in 1982, was a pretty decent display typeface. I remember buying a Letraset "Fontek" version of it on a 1.44MB floppy disc in the early 1990's. A couple or so knock-off versions of Papyrus were made later, which includes...
  14. number id

It looks like Serpentine Sans, a bold-italic weight of it artificially stretched a good bit.
  15. Anyone know these Fonts?

Yes, a CC account is necessary.
  16. Anyone know these Fonts?

Reklame Script is available to sync via Adobe Fonts: https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/reklame-script
  17. I was hired to wrap a vehicle and now they are mad at me... my blood pressure is through the roof!

If they designed the wrap themselves the technical problems are pretty much on them. Most of the time it's not necessary to link external image files anymore. Modern computers for graphics purposes usually have enough RAM and CPU horsepower to handle embedded art. Image files for vehicle wraps...
  18. Font help. It looks like a monogram

That's not from a font at all. Indeed, the best thing to do is re-create it using an image of the letters at a guide.
  19. Need font help

The numerals are definitely from The Sans. The "1" in that type family has a bracket on the bottom of it. Myriad Pro doesn't have a bracket at the bottom of a "1" regardless of what number set is selected in the typeface. Some typefaces will add a bracket to a "1" if the number set is changed...
  20. Adobe / Pantone?

Adobe could try developing its own spot and process color standards. But there would be potential pitfalls in doing so. Adobe is far from the only company making graphics/publishing software. Adobe would probably run into a lot of challenges trying to get competitors to support a spot/process...
