  1. Pole Banner Hardware for Square Poles?

The straps work, the bigger the pole the better they do with square ones. Never really had any issues, although if you don't like the fit, or do have issues, you can always re-torque them in a week or so, just to get the corners to form good so they don't slide. If you can bolt directly, it...
  2. Latex Printing on actual cloth type artist's canvas (??)

Used to do canvas prints for business lobbies and trade show applications. Did most solvent printed, some on the flatbed, layered to get a little of the hand painted look. For those we stretched them on the frame first to prevent ink cracking when mounting, added a painted or stained outside...
  3. Are you open?

Leave it to Tex to take all the fun out of it by offering a reasonable explanation...
  4. Making a transition

I think you'll enjoy it... After I retired, even though I was just doing freelance designing after that, I loved the home working environment. At least you don't have a spouse who got so spoiled having the house to themselves that they'll send ya' back out into the cold cruel world
  5. Direct UV or Laminated vinyl for outside?

It's like buying grade 8 bolts to hold something lightweight together, no added benefit, just added cost. It's just using the right material for the job, and staying competitive with pricing. You have to charge the customer more, and pay more for cast that's best suited for surfaces that aren't...
  6. Direct UV or Laminated vinyl for outside?

If you want it to last, printed vinyl with lam. Still the best for longevity outdoors. Polymeric are perfect for this (the Substance vinyl akuarela uses is one, 3M IJ40 is another, most brands have a line of them). They're more affordable than cast, and don't shrink like plain ol' calendared...

  8. What numbskulls approve these layouts?

Donation line... Collecting money for new graphics? Whatever it's purpose is, it needs to stop. Immediately.
  9. Question Vehicle Wrap Labor , Costs & Installers

The bulk of our business is signage and installs. We can/ will do wraps, but have never really had a desire to be a "wrap shop", opting to stick more to corporate vehicle branding. We're not in a major metropolis, so the market here for full wraps isn't huge to start with, have several shops in...
  10. Discussion Would you fire this employee?

Well, y'all could have a reprobate like me workin' for ya'. Whenever I ever feel like beating on something, I have one of my drum kits set up out in the shop. And I'm not afraid to use it... :rock-n-roll:
  11. Discussion Would you fire this employee?

I've terminated people for less, and with no video evidence. If an adult can't be trusted unsupervised, they need to go, period. Sounds harsh, but the only other options are risk it happening again (possibly being worse, or that rage turned on another employee) or hire someone to babysit, I...
  12. Interesting...

Seems odd how they flew under the radar with everything till that recent TOS update. Almost like a mass exodus had begun, and enough got caught up in those hidden termination fee loopholes to cause this. I wish I could get rid of the last remaining Adobe program I have. One license left for one...
  13. Affinity and Summa cutter´s

Equipment manufacturers and 3rd parties are responsible for writing these plugins, I reached out to Serif a while back to ask if adding plugin support to affinity was on the radar. Their response was they are fully willing to work with them, but at that point there wasn't enough interest by...
  14. Interesting...

Well, Adobe stepped across the line and caught someone's attention. DOJ and FTC filed a suit against them. Here's a link to the DOJ press release, there's also a link to the full complaint on the page, although heavily redacted...
  15. Affinity and Summa cutter´s

If print equipment Mfgrs would partner up with Affinity for plugin support too, it would be game-over for Adobe. I've been using Affinity exclusively for designing for a few years now, send files right to rip from it, the ONLY issue is cutting. Currently I only have one license for one copy of...
  16. Substrate options for 10 foot outdoor sign

Do seams all the time. I'd use 60" wide ACM, run the seam vertical, right down the center with a support brace behind it. It'll be shorter than running it horizontal, couple feet less to brace, and look better. It'll outlast painted wood in that application too.
  17. Rant Has windows defender ever caught a VIRUS?

It's not solely defender that protects, there's also the windows firewall and malware tools, modern network modems/ routers also have their own firewall, and there's password protection. It's not so much any one in particular does anything magic, it's just the layers that have to be penetrated...
  18. How to trim down a 33-foot-long banner?

Not sure, I'd have to ask the boss. If I remember I'll ask next week. I think we might only have one more of theirs on the schedule in our territory, so they seem to be coming to an end here too. We've been going crazy with updated branding for a ton different chains.
  19. How to trim down a 33-foot-long banner?

You just need to get better equipped. If you have the room to do it on the floor, you have room for tables. I have 4x12 tables, same height, on wheels that I can move around for large stuff. We made the tables ourselves, welded steel frames with MDF tops and cutting mats. Probably a worthwhile...
  20. Suggestions Banner Sewing

Place I retired from had a Mitsubishi double needle, don't remember the model number. It was kind of an entry level industrial, never had any issues with it. I kind of miss having one.
