  1. Client Error wants Warranty

It's not rock guard, it's vinyl. Your job was to install it. Tell him to kick rocks (but to be careful, he may scuff his shoes, and they won't be warrantied).
  2. Cold-weather silicone for exterior Gemini/stud installs?

Without knowing all of the variables, acetoxy cures faster than neutral, so GE l or similar should be fine.
  3. BEWARE of South Water Signs

I think it's a legitimate question. He didn't say he didn't know what a survey was, he asked what it was in context to this thread. I think there are a number of people wondering the same thing - what kind of survey did the OP do for only $125? But it could have been something as simple as...
  4. Routing grooves in 4x4 wood post

Just curious, why are you ripping multiple 40' lengths of oak with a circular saw and not a table saw?
  5. Routing grooves in 4x4 wood post

Every major cordless tool manufacturer has a circular saw that will easily rip anything you throw at it - including oak. For pretty much any corded tool, there's a cordless version that performs as well as, or usually better, than the corded version. Almost all tools now are brushless and...
  6. Lexel or Weldon?

Definitely Weldon. Lexel is more for adhering a sign to a wall, larger flat surfaces, etc....not for edge-to-face applications.
  7. Lexel or Weldon?

    What exactly are you doing?
  8. Routing grooves in 4x4 wood post

Yours will be fine. A fixed base is a bit easier to operate than a plunge.
  9. Routing grooves in 4x4 wood post

omg....a router with an edge guide and a double fluted straight bit and you'll be done in 10 minutes. There's more than one 'right tool for the job'. That's the entire purpose of a straight bit. - to cut grooves. Gino described the process perfectly. You don't need a table saw and dado blade lol.
  10. Meeting with corporate buyers

....oh, and add to that, the super professional lady that griped at you is probably the one you'll be having to hound to get your payment 30 days after it's due.
  11. Meeting with corporate buyers

I completely agree. And that's why I would be concerned about this. If he stated right off the bat that they're looking for the lowest bid, there goes your ability to upcharge for the frustrations and annoyances you're about to get into. I don't get the impression that he values you or what you...
  12. Calling anyone who uses angle to hang sign panels

    "This is the way."
  13. One man shop growing pains

I guess I see your situation as a challenge, not so much a problem.....or, at the very least, you have 'a good problem'. You said you have more work than you can handle. That's wayyyyy better than not having enough work. Maybe an apples to oranges comparison, but when I started my business 10...
  14. Meeting with corporate buyers

I wasn't there so maybe he's not as arrogant as he's sounding in your post, but the items in red wouldn't sit well with me at all. In my experience, customers looking for the lowest bid usually turn out to not be worth the time. Demeaning your experience and abilities by stating you just...
  15. Calling anyone who uses angle to hang sign panels

Advice from an installation standpoint: make the frame the full dimensions of the pan panel (HxW). That way, when it's being installed, there's no guessing about where it's going to land.
  16. Permits for Window Signage

Vinyl graphics are typically considered signs. The vast majority of municipalities I've dealt with have ordinances that address window signs.
  17. Permits for Window Signage

I wouldn't necessarily pass on the job. Explain the process and see if they're interested. If not, move on. If they're dishonest about the permit procedure, that same lack of honesty/ethics might bite you when it's time to get paid.
  18. Permits for Window Signage

It typically boils down to anesthetics. As ridiculous as it sounds, many municipalities also restrict signage inside the building, within so many feet of a storefront window.
  19. Permits for Window Signage

Clever ask, but the intent of restricting graphics to a certain percentage of the window is to limit how busy storefronts look and to maintain a certain anesthetic. I highly doubt they're going to take into account the hole-to-material ratio.
  20. Permits for Window Signage

You already know what the requirements are. What do we think about what...? Are you asking if we think you should try to avoid getting a permit?
