  1. Wrap material suggestion for color change

Agree... I'll use Vvivid's architectural films, textured leather, woodgrains, etc, the stuff few companies offer. And it's cheaper than Ni-Doc for the more budget jobs. It's great for small/ oddball jobs or accents, but they'd never be my go-to for anything large or full wraps.
  2. Customers in production areas

Just get a scarier looking dog than mine....
  3. Need Help Printing these little Dot Gains

Solvent and Ecosol inks use a glycol base, so they shouldn't freeze, but the TrueVis inks eliminate a lot of harmful chemicals, so I don't know if they will, or if it'll cause them to become unusable. However, inks can crystalize when frozen, and be subject to condensation forming in the bags...
  4. Decal with business card slot

True, but all I did was a quick search and grabbed the first one I found, I'm sure there are many options cheaper. I got squirreled because I liked the holder rather than a decal, I distract easily...
  5. Decal with business card slot

You could go with media holders like these. Easier to change out than decals. I know there's all kinds of these on the market, this was just a quick search/ first thing that popped up. Used to use something similar back when I was doing displays, but they were black acrylic...
  6. Customers in production areas

Here the shop is separated, but there's just a partial wall between the reception area and the graphics area & offices. We get very little off the street business, but when people show up, there's no receptionist, so they usually just wander into the graphics area, unless the dogs greet them at...
  7. 48C Lifting

You got lucky in the past, not allowing paint to fully cure is just asking for issues. With the way paints are getting formulated for easy clean-ability, vinyls are having a harder time sticking to them even when fully cured. A std non-PVC calendared like 48C will shrink more, and quicker than...
  8. Install halo lit letters on wood fence?

They probably came back in desperation because every other shop they contacted told them the same thing you did, or passed on it for the same reasons. As set in their ways as they seem, it's a no-brainer to figure out why the development is such a permit nightmare.
  9. Install halo lit letters on wood fence?

Besides fence boards not being very solid, looking at the gaps between the boards on the fence, the private lot behind it is gonna get a lot of streaks of light shining through using halo's. Don't know if that'll be an issue, but something else to consider. Putting another structure in front of...
  10. Happy Thanksgiving - plans?

Thanksgiving is traditional. Wife makes some of the best turkey ever, just gonna eat till I pass out today, repeat daily with leftovers till they're gone. Christmas I usually get the kitchen and make lasagna using my grandma's recipe. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
  11. Hiring Designers for my Sign Company

Wish I could agree it's that easy. You're also creating and designing logos, re-creating logos and other elements in vector that a customer can't furnish, it all takes design talent, plus knowledge of printing, working with color gamuts, materials, etc. Plus there's always those pesky deadlines...
  12. Looking for a poly material replacement

Big Systems out of WI has a pretty big selection of blockout films for roll-ups. They do have the grey backed, use that all the time, prints fantastic, but I think all the aqueous is white front & back. Don't know how difficult it is to ship stuff from down here, but here's their link...
  13. Display lightboxes - would anyone use static cling as only printed graphic layer

Test it first. Used to do some retail displays like that for one chain of stores so they could swap out promotions, but these went on the front of a lighted panel. Once we found the right combination of materials it worked OK, I didn't like it much, but they liked them. Rather than static cling...
  14. Hiring Designers for my Sign Company

Didn't realize how bad it had gotten, or how hard it is to find qualified people today. When I got bored and came back out of retirement, I didn't think I'd find anything back in the industry, usually old dinosaurs like me end up as Walmart greeters or convenience store clerks, regardless of...
  15. Need input on which kind of Computer is the best to use for Designing.

Dell for the win. That's what I use at home, spec'd similar to the Mac here at the office (processor speed/ ram/ video/ etc), and will run circles around the Mac. And way friendlier on the budget.
  16. Raster and Vector Image Customer Rant

I used to too... Then I started using Affinity. It makes doing gradients and masking with blurs for those hard to hit ones so easy, and it's all live preview so you can adjust & tweak things as you go and see what's changing as you change it.
  17. Question on material used for construction

Have one that style back in the store room collecting dust that was never installed due to last minute customer design changes. It's all aluminum. Sort of the same construction as channel letters, but with thicker material. The face and back are just panels cut the same shape, the outer is bent...
  18. Storage of Vinyl Upright

+1 for the core holders, I just line em' up along the wall behind the printer. And they're free with every roll you buy :thumb:
  19. Question How would you do it?

Alumigrahic only has a 1yr lifespan. Plus, for some strange reason they seem to be ok with holes in the building, but not painting, or applying adhesive vinyl
  20. Question How would you do it?

Boss is going down there this weekend to do a survey & get the budget. We've done some work on other buildings in the area this is, and they're not tightwads, but there will be a limit. I know what Daktronics cost, I'm pretty confident that'll be out, but I also can't imagine our installers...
