  1. Help choosing a second printer

For every brand of printer, you'll get people who love them and hate them. A lot of it comes down to which dealer you buy from and how good their support is. In my experience, most people who have really bad experiences with a machine are early adopters. The Roland TruVis series had some issues...
  2. Shoutout to ChatGPT. Cheapest customers always give the best reviews!

Yup. You just give it the info you want to portray and how you want it said and it will spit it out in seconds. If it comes out and sounds condescending or not very professional, you just say, do it again but more professional and it spits another one out in seconds. What a world we live in.
  3. Mimaki UCJV 300 Beeps trying to print, then dead

Boot up the machine and don't send a job to it. Then go to the Information menu and check the error history. Hopefully whatever error is occurring has been logged and that will give more info about what's going on. Unfortunately my first hunch is a main board malfunction but it could be many...
  4. Anyone have experience with MeasureColor Mobile?

I got the simple one. It's good for getting paint colors or RGB values but that's about it.
  5. Roland SP300i Replace?

Those machines have lasted much longer than their peers of the same generation. Parts like heads, dampers, cap tops, pumps are going to be around for a while. The only parts you need to worry about are PCBs and there are plenty of used machines sitting around to steal from. I'd keep it if you...
  6. Anyone have experience with MeasureColor Mobile?

I use a Nix sensor that does the same thing. Works well.
  7. Mimaki CJV150 pinch roller monkey business

Oh believe me, we're always talking about how the engineers need to actually use the machines in the field that they design. What's clever in their minds doesn't always translate to real world! Mimaki does have ES3 inks which smell less but they aren't as scratch resistant.
  8. Mimaki CJV150 pinch roller monkey business

Those are the two main complaints on this machine for sure. I believe the reason for the weird pinch roller setup has to do with a patent, or so I've heard. Something about having to design it that way to differentiate themselves to avoid patent infringement.
  9. Need Help Roland SP540V heads print with a large gap between CK...Two Heads Aren't Better Than One...

Did you do the horizontal alignment? That's the one that aligns the space between the channels. Also, make sure you did the bidirectional alignments in both service and user mode. Service mode only sets the baseline, user mode does the actual alignment.
  10. Mimaki CJV150 pinch roller monkey business

It's a fundamental aspect of the machine unfortunately. You can speed things up by making the print and cut mode roller settings the exact same. In that case it will just check to make sure each roller is in the proper position instead of having to also adjust each one so it's a little quicker.
  11. Mutoh 1204 Head/Damper change

Move the head over the platen and check the gap between the bottom of the head and the platen. They should be parallel. On the 1204, a lot of the time the head doesn't get set all the way down and the left side tends to be higher than the right side which causes the cap not to seal. In that case...
  12. Need Help JFX200-2513 Error 717

It's attached to the head under the big carriage cover. Once you take the cover off, you'll see something that looks like the diagram I posted above. This is a fairly complicated machine to work on so you might consider getting a tech. I'd contact Mimaki to see if there is a dealer closer to...
  13. color code for reflective vinyl

If all else fails, get a NIX sensor for about $100. It will give you an RGB value and it comes in handy once in a while for things like this.
  14. Need Help JFX200-2513 Error 717

Unfortunately there isn't anything that I know of. It's a fairly rare part to fail and I don't even see the procedure in the tech manual. Becoming unplugged is more rare but sometimes the heating element just burns out due to age.
  15. Need Help JFX200-2513 Error 717

Haha, morning! Your printheads have heaters that heat the ink up and the error is saying heater 1 is either unplugged or burnt out. The easiest thing is to just make sure everything is plugged in in the head area. You might need to have the heater replaced though.
  16. 20% Restocking Fee

Since you both made a mistake, it seems like the easy solution would be to just split the shipping cost on this order and return, and then start from scratch with a new order. As someone who used to sell a lot of vinyl, 20% is basically the margin. So they're basically trying to get double...
  17. Change Ink-Type - Need Help Activating SB54 Ink Type on Mimaki JV150 after Hardware Maintenance

To change the ink type to SB54: Change System Parameter 032 to "4" if you're using a 4 color setup. Change to "6" for 6 color. To tell the machine it's full already: Go into the Ink Parameter 1 menu and then change parameter 000 to "1". Edit: Actually that's for SB53 inks. I don't know if it...
  18. Where does this fault lie?

If you can get some nozzles to print, it's probably not a fuse but worth checking fuse F13 on the main board. I've noticed 2 things about these models as they age. 1. The ink lines and connections start to fail and cause ink flow issues. 2. The cap top slider pegs wear down and cause the cap to...
  19. Question DX7 Printhead Dented/Destroyed? Visible damage. No ink is printing at all. How did this happen? Help?!

It's definitely cooked for good. It had to have been a head strike but my best guess is not on simply vinyl or something like that. That damage comes from hitting something hard like a screw driver left on the platen or similar. If you came back and it was like that but not erroring out, someone...
  20. 3D rendering software

This may not be the solution you're looking for but, you can make an animated GIF in Photoshop fairly easily. Might not give you the 3D look you're looking for but it will give customer a better idea on how the transition will look like.
