I just saw a video with something similar in Caldera. I will try that. This is the technique I'm using right now. It's good but very time consuming.

Adjust the color at the RIP? That is a new one for me. Can you elaborate? I do create my own profile within caldera and a spectrophotometer. So I assume I must be able to do this also?

I would go with the CWT just because there is no bridge over the roller. But if you can, look at the Kala applikator. I love this one because you can add more tables in the future.

I would be curious to test that and know how much it would cost to varnish an entire print. We mostly do interior stuff and we laminate maybe one thing per month, so we outsource it.
