Check the humidity level, under 20% humidity can cause a static charge that will cause overspray or random nozzle strays.
Consider introducing a humidifier in the environment.
Wayne Great Question, I always had the impression not to let them run out because it will cause another issue(s):cross contaminate.
I know the 1204 & 1304 are not equipped sub-tanks, that's my concern.

Check for dried ink around the head, cap and wiper.
Be sure the seal it is in good shape
Soak the capping station with cleaning solvent, let it sit for 30 minutes.
Do a strong cleaning with head in low and see if that helps...
What about the heaters, it could be possible that one side is less hot then the other because I have seen the adhesive on the back side of the heater wear our and the heater start to come off the platen. Is one side of the printer less hot then the other side?

Are the pads in the cap assy swollen and touching the bottom of the print head?
It's probably the sponges in the caps have swollen and made contact with the heads, hence your ink on the floor.

It won't fit on a DC, it needs to go into a DVD.
If SAi gave you a link to download Flexi all you need to do it is download the file, unzip it and run the autorun.exe
PS.- Their Download does not have any ICC profiles .
