  1. Can Mimakis accurately set the origin/base point?

Yeah we got the canon/oce version of onyx too but got it upgraded to get the mimaki on there too, also it didn’t support ICC profile creation which was a PITA. For the capacity, on the average day we were probably only using it 3-5 hours a day, just those three to five hours would’ve taken...
  2. Can Mimakis accurately set the origin/base point?

Yeah. Pretty fortunate just now the Colorado works. Measures the width of the media and prints bang in the centre, and measures the leading edge before printing so always does exactly what you ask for. Especially when it’s just a 1 off banner and you don’t need to chop the short edges because...
  3. Need Help CJV 150 please help me with this stupid disaster

Have you looked into third party inks? Pretty much everyone sells it and we’ve ran third party inks for about five years with no problems. About 1/3 of the price too. My guess is that the inks are filled slightly over 440ml so you can use the advertised amount safely and not get air in the...
  4. Need Help CJV 150 please help me with this stupid disaster

Sounds a lot like you’d save more money just buying ink cartridges and using them normally than the headache that comes from trying to save $3 worth of ink
  5. Can Mimakis accurately set the origin/base point?

When we tried this on our Colorado we had to create a different profile for each side to account for the different thickness/texture etc. Luckily enough it prints bang in the middle every time so that does help lol
  6. Newbie needing Mimaki CJV150-75 Help

Doesn’t matter what type of printer you get, they all seem to have pretty distinct smells. From the solvents to the latex. Though I’m pretty sure it’s not the actual latex ink that smells, more the vinyl cooking lol
  7. Regular Laminate for Floors?

Yeah wouldn’t go OTT with the vinyl, the main thing here is the laminate. I doubt sticking to the actual floors will be an issue
  8. Crop marks not printing

Maybe an artboard issue? Try saving as PDF and make sure the artboard is larger than the artwork inc crops?
  9. Regular Laminate for Floors?

Removable with heat but I’ve found it leaves residue/glue. Even the removable stuff does! Though you won’t have any problems with it sticking. We tried some 3164 about three years ago and anti slip lam and it looks good as new (our cleaner is amazing though, must have OCD) We have mostly been...
  10. Regular Laminate for Floors?

To be honest we only ever used the 3551 for flat signage and vehicle graphics. It’s a permanent adhesive though so won’t be easy to get off depending on how long it’s there. We used the 3162 removable monomeric once but after about three months the customer called saying they were having trouble...
  11. Regular Laminate for Floors?

We’ve been trying to find “removable” vinyl where possible. A lot of these floor graphics will be changed and/or just plain removed whenever this goes back to *normal* so I’m guessing there’s gonna be a lot of angry people wondering why their floor vinyls won’t come off or left a huge chunk of...
  12. Summa OPOS Barcode Questions

So we have two rip permissions (Colorado and a mimaki) and don’t need more to run the summa. As far as I’m aware, all you’re doing when you select your cutter is telling onyx what type of cut file to create. Nothing else. You don’t really “add” the cutter to onyx, you’re just telling it that the...
  13. Summa OPOS Barcode Questions

Was still half asleep writing that, I’d make sure to distinguish between thrive cut server and summa cutter control. I did also assume you have an S class. You’d just need to pick the right cutter. Another thing worth mentioning, in thrive if you go to (I think) file - manage cutters - *your...
  14. Discussion Mac or Microsoft

I design on Mac and tend to just get a PC Rip station as we tend to upgrade those more often. Just load a drive between the two and save it as a shortcut. if I HAD to, I would be happy working on either. Both do what they need to.
  15. Summa OPOS Barcode Questions

You don’t need an extra RIP or anything. It can all be done on the same pc pretty easily. All thrive is doing is creating the cut file and the summa cutter control is sending it to the cutter. I’ll go through it pretty much step by step (not at work cause it’s Sunday so this is mostly from...
  16. Regular Laminate for Floors?

As far as actually using the 3551 for floor decals, you shouldn’t have any problems on flat surfaces. With regards to the 215, that’s not an anti-slip rated laminate so I definitely wouldn’t trust that. I’ve laminated rolls and rolls of the 3551/215 Combo and every now and then we lay a few...
  17. Need Help Illustrator to Flexi

Have you tried saving as say a PDF or EPS and then importing to flexi? I don’t use flexi but I can’t imagine copy and paste is the best solution?
  18. Amazon prime delivery rant

Might be a UK thing but I prefer the amazon guys that seem to be fairly clueless to anyone at Hermes. The Hermes guys seem to actively try and be useless instead of just being useless like the amazon guys.
  19. Print & Cut Solution for new user

Where about in the UK are you? Scotland here. From the sounds of it a HP might suit you, though as long as you do regular maintenance on the solvents they can sit for a while too. We started out with a print and cut mimaki CJV-30, id highly recommend mimaki but if you can get a separate printer...
  20. Anyone seeing loads of material shortages yet?

So that’s not just us! DHL picked up 20 rolls of floor graphics material from our supplier, must’ve went to their depot, then left to deliver them to us but only brought 10??? They’ve been giving us loads of half orders even though they’re full when they leave the supplier.
