  1. Not exactly about installations, but rather......................................

Cold, I don't mind. I can layer up and throw the heated jacket on, etc. and be good to go. But extremely cold temps are rare here anyway. I worked on a Wells Fargo conversion some years back and was managing installations up in Wyoming. It was similar to the weather Mosh is talking about and the...
  2. Verbiage help?

Agreed, repairs is redundant. And it's not much, but maybe use '&' instead of 'and'.
  3. Pantone Swatch Books - Which One?!

    (...or, what mpn said...)
  4. Pantone Swatch Books - Which One?!

The Coated (C) and Uncoated (U) refer to how the colors will look on coated or uncoated paper. The formula is the same for both corresponding colors. If they spec a coated or uncoated color, it's important to make sure they understand the system and how the media or material being printed or...

  6. Pantone Swatch Books - Which One?!

Depends what you're doing with them. Print to paper/stock and you'll generally want the uncoated. Print to glossy or paint a sign cabinet and you'll generally want the coated.
  7. Etched Aluminum-Safety Orange

I would sub it out to Steel Art. Their "etch and fill" is actually blasted. It gives the same result. "Etch and fill" is an old term that is often used out of default. As long as the finished product is what they want, you should be fine. Blasting has replaced etching in many instances.
  8. Best fastener for brick wall install

Lags & shields or sleeve anchors.
  9. Adhering Letters in Cold, Wet Weather

    What is the install surface?
  10. Am I the crazy one?

Man some people get worked up... OP: You already said you would redo it for free, which I agree with. Virtually any proof should show the dimension of the sign, letters, etc. In this case, the letter height and width should be called out on the art.
  11. One of those days (weeks)...

I'm glad this week (especially today) is over. Ordered a set of dimensional letters a couple of weeks ago for a customer. We get a three day ice storm and somehow the circuitry on their router fried. Job is delayed. Aluminum supplier is behind on shipping due to the storm. Job is delayed even...
  12. Taking my dog for her last walk around the lake.

It's the worst. I went through that a little while back...had my girl for almost fourteen years from they time she was about ten weeks old. I did the same thing you did - took her on one last walk and she 'smiled' like she always did the whole time...she didn't know anything was wrong. Remember...
  13. Silicone...

Ah...that stinks. If you need it and can find it, it's a great deal. Unfortunately I just bought a case from an online vendor and paid more than what these come out to.
  14. Silicone...

GE Silicone II is currently buy one get one free at Lowes. Normal price is about $6 a tube.
  15. Little Giant Lunar ladder...

Well, I would have bought the Sumo Stance if I found a good deal on one, but that hasn't happened yet. Bought this one instead to replace my 6' fiberglass step ladder. If anyone does installs, this thing is awesome...I'd highly recommend getting one. I like the fact that the back can drop...
  16. Need advice on forming letters

In my opinion, it's not really something you can learn on a forum. You really need to work alongside someone that can teach you the trade. Or just be prepared to go through a ton of trial and error until you get it right. .040" isn't considered thick. Most competitive quality sign shops use at...
  17. Vinyl post and panel question.

The weight of the existing face is primarily a static load that is supported by the posts. Overlaying 3mm ACM panels wouldn't add much to the static load and doesn't increase the area exposed to wind load so you would be fine.
  18. Vinyl post and panel question.

Those can be a bit of a booger putting together even when they're new and in pieces on dry ground. Since that's already installed, removing the old face without pulling one of the posts might be a pain (not that pulling the post wouldn't be a pain...). A lot of your ability to replace it...
  19. Hand carved Lawyer sign

3'+ is a lot of digging. I don't envy you. The frost line in North Texas is almost non-existent...I believe it's 6".
