  1. Hand carved Lawyer sign

Looks great...the posts (the whole thing) came out really good. What's your frost line up there? I'm curious why you used Sonotube...?
  2. Another hand carved HDU sign. (with gilding)

That looks great - nice work! I wish I knew how to do that kind of work. It seems like it would be pretty satisfying.
  3. Help needed for cutting.080

5052 is better for applications where bending is required. 6061 is better for machining. Might want to switch up your alloy.
  4. selling sign related items......

It's going to be tough to find someone that just happens to need/want that size sign and happens to be in an area where the local codes allow for it, etc. Clean, unpainted aluminum? Take it to your local metal recycling facility and get a couple/few hundred bucks.
  5. Install Ideas??

I agree with the slotted aluminum angle. I would use metal strapping to fasten it to the silo. Your circumference is going to be around 37'....the freight strap will give you plenty to work with.
  6. Install Ideas??

I don't follow what you're saying about the strapping and all-thread. Are you running the all-thread through the silo wall? Do you have any photos? Are the silo walls smooth or ribbed?
  7. Tape measures...how many is too many?

Here's a quick video I did of how the tape works. Like I said, not a substitute for every tape measure, but it would definitely come in handy for when you only have one hand free, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ-L8eTHe54
  8. 3M free hardhat offer

I posted the original link. I got my hat and didn't have any issues.
  9. New Truck Lettering

Very cool. How long does something like that hold up (car washes, etc)?
  10. Tape measures...how many is too many?

I have about six tape measures I keep on the truck for various installations. A small Komelon 12' self-locking tape that I use for small, up-close jobs, a 16' Milwaukee for slightly larger jobs, a 25' DeWalt for larger interior jobs, a 25' FatMax for exterior work, a 25' self-centering Lufkin...
  11. Simple Post Mount Question

As far as the overall look of 3" posts vs. 4" posts, do a quick sketch on graph paper and see if it makes a difference to you. Other than aesthetics, there's no reason you can't use 3" posts and there's no reason you can't use ACM.
  12. What thickness of aluminium to use?

It depends on the size of the letters and other factors, but we typically did .063" backs and .040" returns. When you start manufacturing letters in the 48" or more range, you might bump up to .080" backs and .063" returns.
  13. Aluminum to aluminum bonding help!!!

Not to be argumentative, but Lord 406 has a tensile strength of 4500psi or some such thing. It will hold a 50 pound sign together.
  14. Inspectors using company equipment for access

Agreed...his job is to inspect - he should have the equipment to do his job. It can be explained nicely that for insurance reasons, no one else is allowed to use your ladder or equipment or tools. And if your sign is installed correctly, there shouldn't be anything to pick apart anyway...even if...
  15. Inspectors using company equipment for access

There's not a chance I would let them use my equipment.
  16. Building a sign box with VHB tape

Some of the responses almost seem to indicate that manufacturing a sign cabinet with VHB, welding, bolts, etc. has to be an "either/or" scenario. The point, again, is that there are obviously limitations to what the tape will hold. Tape, stitch welds, rivets, screws and bolts all have failure...
  17. Building a sign box with VHB tape

It's not used on large signs all by itself. The OP didn't specify what size cabinet he's building, but on smaller cabinets, when customers specify "no visible fasteners", there are certain instances where a sign can be partially or wholly assembled with VHB tape. Again... It depends on the...
  18. Building a sign box with VHB tape

Because, when used properly, it's a fast and proven method of building a sign.
  19. Building a sign box with VHB tape

It's done frequently. Whether or not you use strictly VHB tape or you use VHB tape along with stitch welding or other supporting attachment methods depends on the size of the sign, it's exposure to winds, engineering requirements, etc.
