Personally I don't like buttons. I am much faster with short cut keys rather than moving my cursor all over the screen clicking buttons. It requires more hand/mouse/pen movement on larger screens.

In illustrator the artboard is the area which you specify the size when starting a new document. So if you specify 8.5x11 when starting a new document, 8.5x11 is the "artboard". Anything falling outside of the artboard will not print

In Illustrator you must "release" the clipped image, make your adjustments and then reclip or mask the image

I think oval gradients were not added until cs4 or cs5. The way I have had to do it on cs3 and older is draw a circle and fill with the radial gradient. Then squish the circle down to the oval shape and the gradient distorts as well

I agree. Similarly, if you apply the "round corners" function in Illustrator it does not just affect the sharp corners. It also tries to round the parts that are already curved and thus distorts these lines

Can't you just select from the menu object>rasterize and select the resolution there?

You can change the guideline colors in the preferences. Or am I missing something?

Use the options shown just above it. To center in the artboard chose the center top/bottom and center left/right. Sure that is more than one click but it does more than that. You can also choose to have it align to the artboard edges too, not just the center
