This forum is the best thing I ever found since being in the biz.... It helped so much to get peoples opinions on just about everything concerning anything related to the business.
I would be lost without Signs101....Worth paying for and I sort of wish that it was a pay only forum to keep...
I think with a Pizza shop a phone number can't hurt....have to drill it into their heads ya know.
I find it strange when people want me to put their email address on a truck or sign.... a web site is fine, but Ronald.shlongbonger@hotmail.com just doesn't do it for me
If I know you then HEY is fine...but for the first form of communication in business, it is totally unacceptable. having said that, I won't turn away business and I am sure he is probably a pretty decent hard working guy.
I just needed to get my post count up :Big Laugh
Received an email yesterday from some guy and it started off with..."Hey".
Right away I don't like the %^%$ head.....Oh I see he was refered by a slow payer...OK, I send back a response that I need to see what he has for me to work with before quoting a proper price to do his vehicle...
I have access to a flatbed printer and the pricing is very reasonable...however, I don't want my business going to the point where I am reduced to being a sign broker. I don't mean to insult anyone who is one...more power to you.
I realized years ago, before I owned a digital printer that I...
I am not sure who you are directing this statement too. I may be a small shop, but I always keep a lot of stock on hand for anything I may need it for. I just wonder what the hell calendered vinyl is good for anymore lol
I did the math on using cast over the calendered and the material cost is about double...Now it is true that to do this will result in better quality signs and I may just try it out and see. I also like Mosh's idea of leaving a white reveal around the edges...
so let me ask you...for interior signage, what do you use knowing that the 3ml will shrink away from the edges revealing the substrate. I personally think in most cases it is no big deal as no one is looking for it that way...but I suppose on a receptionary display or something that is possibly...
I went to see a manufacturing plant that I do a lot of interior signage for. As I walked through the plant to look at this new project I passed by many of the signs I have made. usually info signs yellow and white backgrounds with black copy on 1/8" pvc. To my dismay I was sort of taken back by...
I had 12 signs made for a factory and now they are asking what kind of cleaners can be used on the signs as they could get oil residue on them over time due to the mfg process they use. They were printed on a Flatbed UV machine......
The white is there for a good reason.... ordered some lime green cast vinyl that was lime green both sides and when installed on darker colours they get darker and lose the rich brilliance of the original colour. I suppose if your selling something that is "Pantone match" you might need white...
I have friends in the biz who call me for vinyl or something sign related all the time..... I don't mind helping them out or I sell them vinyl by the yard. They help me out at times too, so win /win
I will add this.... I ran a couple of dry erase boards for a local restaurant and I called them after a few days to see how the board was working. They said that the ink was not coming off 100% and it was leaving a shadow. Concerned I called a customer I do work for who does a lot of dry erase...
I have a roll of general Formulations just sitting here, so I will experiment.... Ironically 3ml clear digital vinyl is about $55.00 per roll cheaper too.
I really wonder if there is much difference.
Most 3ml laminates I have tried are fair at best. 3ml clear vinyl is rated for 5 years outdoors, so it must have UV inhibitors in them.
I am going to try using some clear vinyl on a few jobs to see just how well they flow over graphics and see...
