  1. just got email

I've only been a SL user for almost ten years. Ditto here - no special incentives then. I inquired about upgrading a couple of months ago (even got a quote from my sales rep) but I got busy and just let it sit. Kinda glad I did, though. I'm jumping in before they change their mind. JB
  2. just got email

I believe the ones who recently paid full price for it might be a bit grumpy right about now. Per the email I received just a few minutes ago: "The program includes a Free Pantone Color Match module (Value $150) and a Free Fluid Mask module (value $199). It comes with 6 months of free...
  3. just got email

'Tis true...'tis true. I just got off the phone with CadLink. They don't have an exhaustive list of competitors products, but he did mention Adobe or Corel software was eligible for the "cross-grade". He said this offer just started and will run until the end of the year. JB
  4. just got email

Wow, that's a good deal. I think they're jumping on Gerber's bandwagon of offering Omega 5 print/cut at an awesome price when you upgrade from Graphix Advantage. Lots of people are "on the bubble" for making software decisions and end-of-year purchases. Sounds like Black Friday came a...
  5. W trouble :0)

I can't help you with the typography, but just a few weeks ago, I saw a similar "driver rehab" car go tooling through town. I wasn't aware of such a need, but I guess there is. Google the term and you'll get quite an extensive education. From the looks of this door, I'm guessing the...
  6. Your first shop when you started.

Since going to business for myself, I've made myself a keen observer of ther business owners. One particular business owner I know still uses machines (Swiss Lathes) that were war surplus from WW2. Believe it or not, he can still go toe to toe with some of the modern CNC shops around here...
  7. Your first shop when you started.

I started in the basement of a ranch home in town, using borrowed equipment. Since then, I've moved up to a two car garage. Next step will be our own building. Avoid debt, slow and steady wins the race, cash is king, (insert your own catchy maxim here). Take a look at the likes of...
  8. Please help lost flexi

Based on the OP's difficulty in finding said software, the cost of an annual subscription pales in comparison to going three months without an income. The voice of reason would say get the subscription, scare up some work and then buy stand alone software as funds permit. JB
  9. Please help lost flexi

Two bits of advice: 1) In your situation, Flexi cloud is the most viable solution. It's only $50 a month with an annual commitment or $60 month to month. You can be up and running in less than 24 hours. http://www.thinksai.com/flexisubscriptions 2) Friends of friends are not...
  10. 45 Degree vs 60 Degree Blade

I do a quick plot/weed test before every long run. It's just a series of three small rectangles 1/4" by 1"...just enough to let me know the blade is still good. I switch blades when weeding becomes difficult. A new blade is a ton cheaper than having to re-cut a big job. Changing blades...
  11. 3D Printing Legality Questions?

We're talking about leaglese here and I'm sure it's covered. I think if you look close enough, there will be copyright language that states something about "image" or "likeness". Obviously, anything 3D printed will bear an image or likeness. I believe 3D printing will bring up a lot of...
  12. Why yes....yes I did.

Way too cool. I can almost hear the sitar playing in the background. And wait...is that nag champa I smell? JB
  13. Used Summa Cutters

I was just looking for the same thing a couple months ago...not much out there. JB
  14. Error opening Omega 2.0 Composer

Sounds like the dongle can not communicate with the Sentinel (security) driver. Double check all your USB ports to see if they're working. Also make sure the Sentinel driver has been installed. Usually that automatically installs first. To be honest...since it's going to be your bread and...
  15. Gerber Omega 5 Layout Station - New, Sealed & Unregistered

Final bump for this listing. I've decided to sell the new Omega software and keep our older registered version of Layout Station. This is now listed on eBay for $450.00 with free shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gerber-Omega-5-LS-Sign-Software-/331384336648? JB
  16. Ag repair logo

Keep the mascot theme, but dump the dog. I'd rather see a sturdy looking Texas longhorn with a wrench in his mouth...or something to that effect. JB
  17. Corel draw X7 Vs. X5 learning curve?

We first started with Corel 3 in 1995 and we've always embraced learning and change. So much so that we're now running Omega 5, Illustrator CS5, Corel X6, SignLab 8, Photoshop CS6, and AutoCAD 2014 LT. I don't know everything about each of them, but I do know that each program has its own set...
  18. Always getting jealous of other decals!

So I'm assuming that the surface tension keeps the resin on the decal and not oozing over onto the backer....inquiring minds want to know. JB
  19. Heat Gun for Weeding

Make good use of a cutting program that allows you to set weed lines and weed borders. Beyond that, it's a no-brainer. Two minutes spent setting weed lines can prevent a lot of ruined vinyl.
