  1. MAX Metal

Calculating costs can be a tricky endeavour, and should be based (first) on your overall costs of owning and operating a business...not what your competitors are charging. This usually means "working backward" from an annual budget of ALL your expenses (to determine your hourly operating cost)...
  2. new logo

It's off to a good start. Hermann Zapf would be pleased. Ok...so it's new, but that's all it is. It certainly isn't fresh. It's definitely an improvement over the heavily bloated serifs of the previous typeface, however they could have been a little more creative with the manipulation...
  3. Lost my 2013 emails in Outlook Express

Does anybody have the telephone number for the NSA? JB
  4. Adobe CC not CS

Wow...all the way back to CS3, of all things. Class-action anarchy in 3...2....1.... JB
  5. When I was a boy...

Hey...how about a left and a right...on both wheels. JB
  6. When I was a boy...

Ok guys, I'm pretty sure we've all been through this stage, and I think it ranks right up there close to puberty, as a right of passage. But if you've never decimated a deck of your parents' playing cards on the spokes of your bicycle, there's still hope for you. Make sure you watch it to...
  7. Lost my 2013 emails in Outlook Express

Here's to closing the gate after the horse got away...but we .pdf all our customer emails, and keep them on file with their job data. It's part of our "electronic paper trail" that has helped save our tail more than once over the years. Sorry I can't say much beyond that. JB
  8. Gerber GS15 Plus and SignLab 8 Cut Velocity

Clarification: I am using the menu in SignLab. There isn't a speed control on the machine. I have a suspicion that it has to do with the driver. My older GS15 uses a "GSPGL" driver, and has options in the SignLab menu that the GS15 Plus ("HPGL" driver) does not. The lowest setting for...
  9. Gerber GS15 Plus and SignLab 8 Cut Velocity

We are having trouble getting the GS15 Plus to cut slow enough for sandblast stencil. Changing the cut velocity numbers in the menu do not affect cut speed (slow or fast)...nothing changes. Our GS15 uses a different driver, and we can get that one to cut slower or faster. I'm stumped...
  10. Blade questions to cut vinyl

Typically the thicker the material, the steeper the angle. Use the 30 degree blade for everyday vinyl, and use the 45 & 60 degree for reflective (thicker) vinyl and sand blast materials. Skip the cheap blades and visit http://www.cleancutblade.com Ross is a great guy, and his blades...
  11. cut vinyl on awning?

Everything I've ever seen that resembles "cut vinyl" has been heat applied. JB
  12. Colorado has a new $1.5 million dollar logo

"...to a rather underwhelming response". I believe it looks more at home on a decal affixed to the rear bumper of a Volvo, tooling down some quaint European back road. JB
  13. As an Adobe user, I'm in shock!

Before this thread goes the way of the age-old Corel vs Adobe debate, I'd just like to say that each software title has its own set of strengths. And what constitutes a strength to one person may very well be a weakness to another, and vice versa. And let's not forget the "personal talent"...
  14. As an Adobe user, I'm in shock!

Kudos to Joe Diaz And kudos to Joe Diaz whose Steampunk Stella resides on the book's introduction page. ...Really, the book itself is a work of art and could gracefully adorn anybody's coffee table...right next to a steamy cup of roasted heaven. The "out of the box" experience with the...
  15. As an Adobe user, I'm in shock!

Ok...so I'm a software addict. Not because I'm a techno-geek, but because each application has specific capabilities that the others do not. My collection includes Illustrator, Photoshop, SignLab, Omega, AutoCAD and now Corel X6. We first started out with Corel 3 back in '95. We...
  16. What am I missing?

Wow, that feels good! I was getting tired of writing everything up in Word and doing the copy/paste routine. JB
  17. What am I missing?

I saw it posted earlier somewhere but now I can't find it. But how the heck do I start a new paragraph? I hit enter but the cursor doesn't do a thing.
  18. On my phone!!!!

I have a mutual vendor / customer relationship with a local business (we buy from, and sell to each other). Earlier this spring he summoned me to his office to discuss business and was interrupted no less than four times by his digital addiction...and it was only a fifteen minute meeting...
  19. Badging in Signlab

I PMed you. But good question. Here are the three things that are needed for it to “understand” that you want to insert multiple merged lines of text. #1) Each line of your text file needs to be delimited (“separated”) by tabs. Believe me, if you don’t press the tab button between each...
  20. Badging in Signlab

Ok...so there's going to be a fine line here, but I think you’ll soon see how valuable the badge function is. The first step is data entry, that’s a given. Usually that can be provided by the customer if it requires people’s names or other information. If it’s just numbers and simple text...
