  1. New guy..doing glass Etching

We started out doing sandblasted etched glass and morphed into stone engraving and monument work. One of my favorite forums, http://www.cuttingedgesandcarving.com seems to be down as of late, but here's another forum http://azglassclasses.com to also check out. JB
  2. Steam Powered Box Factory

    Dang...I was born 100+ years too late...again.
  3. Griefshare.org

Has anybody here on the forum been through a GriefShare course? It's been nearly a month since my father's passing, and I'm ready to move toward the next step of healing. Griefshare.org (http://www.griefshare.org) has a local church that sponsors a group, but it will be a few months before it...
  4. Stop using topical steroid creams!

Just a word of caution to anybody with diabetes: steroids cause extreme elevations in blood glucose levels. We went through all of this just before dad's passing two weeks ago.
  5. Help !! What is this font name ?? Taken from Monument...

I'd bet a hundred bucks that it's bold condensed modified roman, with wedge serifs. It was definitely hand-cut "back in the day". You could most likely get away with plotter cutting the bold condensed typeface, and then hand cut the serifs. I'm also a date-cutter / stone engraver...with 20...

  8. A Promise to Dad and Myself

Long before dad's passing two weeks ago, I had been doing a lot of thinking. Things really settled in this morning when I disposed of his 25+ medications he'd been on. The majority of the meds were for self-inflicted maladies due to a sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits, etc.... As I...
  9. If I have one more customer that uses the word "pop"...

I think it's up to us to educate them as to why the design "already" pops. You don't have to give them design theory 101, but you should at least be able to rattle off a concise paragraph concerning your rationale. To the customer, "pop" usually tends to mean overly done and...
  10. So whatya jamin at work today

How can you not like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fAZIQ-vpdw JB
  11. In honor and memory of my dad...

It's been a rough time for our family, but we are thankful and blessed he didn't linger or have any pain. We were all there, and I held his hand as he quietly slipped away. If you've ever wondered, it is still possible to do some of the things "the way they used to do"... The funeral...

  13. First for our shop

That's one sweet project, for sure. Ah yes...a problem from drafting 101. I've used both the (old fashioned) drafting board and AutoCAD to do ortho layouts for conical surfaces. Brings back memories. JB
  14. How do I stop the type from distorting?

ALWAYS make a copy of your original text before expanding. Believe me, you'll kick yourself if you don't. JB
  15. This is the NEXT step...

I've been wondering why all these little "gold buying" shops have popped up like a bad rash. JB
  16. Playing around with something new.

Ditto... Absolutely love the pizazzzzz.....but it would help tie things together using fewer fonts. Swap out the burnishing tool for another brush....most people don't know what that tool is for. JB
  17. Taking the Leap

If you haven't already, make sure you nail down a solid business plan. It's a tough row to hoe without one. JB

  19. The cheapest customers are also the biggest pains in the A**!

Mistake #1 Mistake #2 You are the guardian of your valuable time and talent. Doing what you're doing is like giving them your ATM card and PIN. Drop them before you lose any more money. JB
  20. We can't match them

I'll bet he keeps the brake & transmission mechanics busy. JB
