  1. Check out my new Customer info gathering form?

I have a form (made in Coffee Cup form builder) for gathering info from customers. What do you think? Any suggestions? Like is it logical or what did I leave out? Here is the link http://www.showpiecesigns.com/how%20to%20order.htm
  2. Pet Spa/daycare sign layout. Left or right?

The text would be carved/gilded and tha animals just painted. Anyone have a preference....(or sage advice.) I like the right but is it too weird having the cats paw over the rule line? Looking at the thumbnail....maybe I should emphasize "pet resort"?
  3. website revamped...opinions/suggestions please

I've revamped my website and would appreciate comments and suggestions. The site is not complete...a lot of things don't link to anything yet but there should be at least one path that goes right through for each type of sign. www.showpiecesigns.com Does it load fast or slow? Does the...

  5. Layout I just sent to a customer....hope I get this one

A customer sent me a picture she painted of a fox and asked me to do a quick layout for a sign. I just sent this out. The fox would be a 3/4 round carving. Hope she gives me the go ahead. This would look great in my portfolio.
  6. HDU and Gold Hearing clinic sign

Here's one I just finished up. It's 14 feet long with 25 letters. The sign is made of 1" HDU (Corafoam) that I bonded to an Alupanel backer. It took 4 books of gold. (There are 25 3.25 x 3.25 sheets of gold in a book) I learned to use loose gold on this project. The thing that held me back from...
  7. The art of criticism....good article

It's concerned with photography but it certainly relates to our field. It's a 2 page article but well worth the read. http://www.photographyblog.com/articles/the_art_of_criticism/
  8. New smiley proposal

Found a new smiley that might come in handy around here.
  9. Double sided HDU Town sign

Here is another sign I made for my hometown. I put it up this morning. It's 55" wide and has a 1" square steel frame inside so the local thugs can't smash throught it. The little oval sign in-set in the bottom is held by two embedded steel bars so it looks like its's floating there from the...
  10. Gilders tip....now what?

I just got a gilders tip so I can apply loose gold leaf. I've only ever used patent leaf before. For my 18 bucks I got a piece of white shirt cardboard with some squirrel hair sticking out of one end. There are no instructions on or with the thing. I've read different accounts of how to use it...
  11. Anyone know of a colour pallet generator for Corel?

I found a colour palette generator for photoshop that you upload a photo and it gives you a colour palette you can put into photoshop. I thought it would be nice to have one but I use Corel. Any one know where to find one for Corel?
  12. My moniter died...happy Christmas to me

My 17" crt monitor died yesterday. I had to go out and get a new one right away of course. I got a 24" HP with a shiny screen. I've never seen one with a shiny screen before, they always looked matt to me. The thing is awesome compared to the old one. I was worried about glare from the shiny...
  13. Sign of the Times Magazine subscription scam?

I've been annoyed twice in as many days by telephone marketers trying to get me to "renew" my subscription to Sign of The Times magazine. I have never had a subscription to this mag so it's kind of hard to renew it. There's no way I'm giving out CC info over the phone to these guys. Anyone else...
  14. Bruised Kidney?

I over-rotated a little last night at TKD and got nailed in the kidney area by a hard back kick. We were doing drills, not fighting so the kick was pretty solid and I wasn't trying to avoid it. The "kicker" was 6'3" and 180 lbs. and known for his strong back kick. The guy felt really bad but it...
  15. vinyl failure on glass - second time

Here are a couple of pictures of some letters lifting off of glass. The vehicle is a 2000 Dodge Caravan. I have replaced this lettering once already. It's been on there for less than six months. The rest of the job is fine....it's just this side of the van that won't stick. The customer says the...
  16. How much alchohol do I add to concrete so it won't freeze?

I mix up bags of ready mix concrete for post hole signs. It's getting cold here and I have a couple of signs that I need to install in concrete/tubes. Anyone know how much alchohol I need to add per bag of ready mix? Or maybe it's some other additive I need? :Canada:
  17. Customer wants quote for a sign. Has no design or specs

I have recieved an email from a potential client who wants a sign. This is pretty typical of the sort of inquireys that I get. Here is the message with his particulars edited out: Greetings, I would like to get a quote on a exterior sign for a new business. Basically 1.5 x 8' , white...
  18. What'cha think of this design?

This is for a gal who does ultrasounds for new moms to be. Strictly non-medical entertainment purposes. She wants something fun. The rectangular with the round corners will be a dimensional sign for the lobby. I thought Jillbeans was the perfect font for this. I bet I get some comments on...
  19. Food Bank sign destroyed

Some little sh*t decided to bust though the sign I made for the local food bank. Really ticks me off.
  20. Town sign..... with before and after.

Here is one the town signs I have been working on. This one's a double sided 4 x 8 HDU with hand carved lettering and apple. The V carved letters are 15" high. The smaller text is sandblasted. The lighting today is very crappy for taking pics of V carved lettering..... no good shadows. Looks a...
