PVC melts between 212 and 500 degrees, depending on the additives. Heat distortion begins at 140 degrees.
Brake wrap vinyl claims to withstand 400 degrees.
We make 24"x36" 30 second cards for motocross out of 6mm expanded PVC. We hand cut them and use a hand rotary tool to make the cutouts for handholds. A router would do the same and be faster. The boards are durable (we've never had a track bring one back because it broke, but we've had several...
And tell your customer he has to spend a lot---either with you to redraw the logo, or with the Sea Doo dealer to buy the decal, which is probably about $300 if it's still available at all.
While true, logo changes are made strategically and not often. Certainly not every time they order a new truck or a marketing banner to put at the corner bar.
Times when we have to find ugly fonts, it is because of their logo or how they write their name, and they already have all their marketing collateral and other advertising using that image. At that point it's a bit presumptuous to tell them they have to change everything else because you don't...
If you lost the client over it, it sounds like it wasn't delivered in time. If there was time, 4Over would replace the product before you delivered it, and you wouldn't have lost the customer. Unless you were making the mistake of having them dropship and not inspecting the product before delivery.
The mixup on shipping a different client's product is on them. But I've never had that happen with 4Over, and probably neither has your company. On the other hand, all I've ever used them for is what they started out to make when they were founded: printed paper products like business cards and...
We do motocross graphics. We started with a Mimaki JV3, but when the Epson S70670 came out we switched to that. It has the capability of doing metallic silver and white. The white means we can make clear swingarm and fork decals, but you can get by without that. I don't see used Epsons for sale...
You will get more small air bubbles if it's hot and the metal is hot when you apply the vinyl. Obviously, it is technique dependent, as everyone has stated. But small bubbles will go away on their own in time.
Automatic weeding machines exist but they still don't pick the holes. Before I opened my own company 12 years ago, the one I managed had a manufacturer client which used us for cut vinyl decals that went on their satellite domes. They were done from 2 colors of vinyl which had to be weeded...
re: your original question, the answer is no. You cannot apply vinyl to that kind of brick.
Possibly you might get high strength adhesive vinyl in a large sheet to stick and even conform with heat. But it will not last as you'd expect it to on, say, an aluminum panel.
