  1. What to do when a long time customer uses a competitor

Continue to serve their needs but keep them on a short leash. Watch for ways the other sign guy screws up and then look for ways to improve service in the light of his mistakes. Anymore, loyalty is not just a one time thing. It must be earned anew...each time. JB
  2. Gonna make one of these this week...

I'd rather cut up a new tree than try to cut up a truck load of pallets...they take the edge off a chain in a hurry. Kinda think of it as marinated steak vs. tough beef jerky...now you get the idea. They burn like a house a'fire...and throw off the best heat. It gets a little busy...
  3. ever heard of this guitarist?

    W-o-w! JB
  4. Gonna make one of these this week...

After watching this, I believe I will make the forks a fuzz longer and increase the angle so I won't have to reach down so far. And...while I'm at it, I'm going to make something similar to snap the slats and stringers in half so I can fit them in the wood stove. It's way too much work...

  7. Printing for personal use

Ask your customer. I would think they would be agreeable, so long as it was only you who wore the shirts. It shows a sense of pride in your work that you'e willing to sport their message. Throw in a free shirt (in the customer's order) for every shirt you plan to wear....I think they'd be...
  8. Wrap it good!

I wanted to learn more about the Stump Stove, but it said it was moved to a new server and needed to clear my dns cache by following the supplied link....wassup? JB
  9. Movie trailer my friend is apart of.

Very cool, very cool. I wish more young guys had the ambition and perseverence as he does. JB
  10. Best Purchase of 2011?

I couldn't decide on just one, so here's my top four: Upgraged to Photoshop CS5, new Dell Precision 1600 workstation, attended Kaufmann Foundation FastTrac Growth Venture business training course...way cool. For the shop, the new "No Smoking" in public places law did me really well this...

  12. "Low Income Assistance Plan"-Another Gripe

They seem to be on most all my utility bills - "Low income assiatance plan" charges. I didn't agree to it...but now it's part of my "plan"...not an option...to pay a tax to make up for those who don't pay their bills. It's a dime here and there...not much...but it's the thought of it...
  13. Quotes over the phone - Office Supplies :(

Whatever happened to simple quotes over the phone for "off-the-shelf" office supplies? To make a long story short, the local quick print added an inkjet franchise a few months ago. Our local office supply store recently bought out a long-established, well respected print shop. And I get...
  14. Anyone want to join and barter?!

Which is better....Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator?
  15. Artwork/file Cataloging Software?

Yes, All you have to do is select the particular drive (CD, external drive, etc...) and it shows a preview with all the pertinent data in a side window. It gives thumbnail previews and an enlarged preview of whatever is selected. It works with AI, PS and JPEG photo files. I haven't tried...
  16. Anyone want to join and barter?!

Good call...it could be frustrating having to keep records that long. And what happens when Steven sells the business and the new owner no longer wants to play his game? JB
  17. Anyone want to join and barter?!

Seriously? Just so long as you have everything in writing....up front. Value of goods received is can be a real PITA when squabbles arise after the fact. Also, you'll need to keep those receipts for the accountant, especially when it comes to cost of goods sold. JB
  18. Artwork/file Cataloging Software?

If you're using Illustrator / Photoshop, try using Bridge. JB
  19. Application tape that comes off in one piece??

+1 for TR. I use it on sign vinyl, Hartco 310 sandblast mask and Anchor 116 & 117 monument stencil. I only apply it just before I lay it down. JB
  20. This is why gov entities suck!

Two agents (representing different insurance companies) told me that's the way it is here in Michigan. You'd be well advised to talk to your own agent. JB
