  1. Metallic laminate??

It's in the cowboy catalog, and yes it does work and make the prints look sparkly or glittery depending on the type you buy. It certainly looks different. We recently used it on a wrap that was half matte black and half digital print with metallic laminate. Turned out pretty nice with the...
  2. Poster materials for Solvent

I really like the Sihl papers for posters and archival prints. They have a whole line of papers for any type of printing you would need.
  3. Trade Show Panels

The manufacturer of the particular "frame" that these are going in probably sells custom "stiffeners" or hangers or whatever, so it may be difficult sourcing them otherwise unless you have an old one you can copy from. I have had great success printing these on a type of Sihl banner, though I...
  4. Mimaki print test problem

Are there any screw heads in the path of travel that your heads take? The straight swipe across the magenta/cyan/black really looks like an indication of a head strike or collision with an object. Our Mimakis would occasionally park incorrectly and get similar head damage, I changed out the...
  5. Always getting jealous of other decals!

Prior to the tangent about doming decals the OP I think was also concerned with being able to see the dots in his print. I have used a few different printers and I know there is a very noticeable print quality difference between some. Many of the newer printers have been tweaked to produce...
  6. Okay, so who figured this one out............??

Exactly as you stated it: "it's their responsibility to take accurate pictures and measurements" Put that along the bottom of every quote that measurements and photos were not taken by your team, something to the effect of: "All photos and measurements for this project are as shown above, and...
  7. How do you save files in Illustrator to open in Onyx Thrive?

I don't use Thrive, but Onyx 11 and it takes pretty much whatever filetype you want to give it. A CMYK PDF or EPS out of Illustrator will usually print just fine for me. As you should well know though, gradients/transparencies with spot colors will not work correctly. (as in print/cut files)...
  8. Am I experiencing outgassing?

Yes, your problem is outgassing. The difference between the two sides shows this easily. Unless this truck was just painted within the last two weeks then you're gonna have to eat this and reprint. If this is a customer that you have a good working relationship with try this: Eat this stripe...
  9. Factory vehicle lettering

Be certified, and then you have to get your salesperson out there to meet with the right contact. ;) You have to be able to do a good job also; MANY fall short here.
  10. Factory vehicle lettering

That is not true, we wrap all of the local Pepsi trailers and quite a few beer trucks also. And get paid well for it! Now Pepsi DOES print in-house, but some things they have figured out they cannot do in-house. (like wraps)
  11. Factory vehicle lettering

We work closely with local dealerships and their lease customers. Sometimes we do a LOT at once, never done them at the factory but do a lot there at the main hub. So, even though its not you doing them, hopefully someone local is!
  12. WARNING dumb question ahead reverse adhesive on perf?

The cowboy sells a solvent printable face-mounted window perf. It printed great on an Epson GS6000 for me, but the ink profile really needs turned down to print on a Mimaki, as our test print on a Mimaki took a LONG time to dry and even then transferred some ink to our test window.
  13. 3M 180c Question

Thanks, the cowboy told me today that this was the case, I just didn't want to believe it!
  14. Make multiple copies in a group.

We run Onyx 11 here on our mimakis and really only have like 3 profiles that we ever use. Tweak a basic profile until it is good for your printer. There is a LOT of difference between our two mimakis here. The "conserve media" option will group your jobs together, set your individual qtys in...
  15. Laminator recommendations?

I love the GFP laminators. Gee Eff Pee!
  16. 3M 180c Question

I know, we use a lot of 8520. I was inquiring about a matte 180c material for other reasons.
  17. 3M 180c Question

Can I buy 3M 180c-10 in matte? My supplier is really dragging their feet in getting back to me, so I am guessing not. I thought I had heard that you could. (I assume it would be called 180c-20?)
  18. Mimaki print test problem

I am not that familiar with that Mimaki model, but I will try to help. Post up a picture of your capping station please, I think I see your main problem. Also, did you just buy this printer, did you verify the nozzle check beforehand? Or, was this printer operating fine "yesterday", and now...
  19. Massive air bubble under laminate!

I would assume with laminating prints the same day as you print them that your business thrives on quick turnarounds, so look into making an outgassing chamber to put your prints into for a few hours at least. There are a couple threads on here about making them. We always wait 24 hours in the...
  20. Cut & Drop Reconsidered - new vans

I did it a few years ago, seemed like it worked good. Now I don't have to do my installs, and my installers do the regular install of cutting and dropping in.
