I think your first try is a little complicated. Try simplifying it. I also tthink that as a designer / signmaker it is also your job to best advise the client - not the other way around. If I listened to all my clients and their workers, wives, neighbours etc, I would never get a job...

Do what the client will love and pay for. EVERYTHING over that is your choice to do it for free - that is artistic license to do "over and above". That is your play time. NEVER expect to get paid for it because that is what makes the job fun.

Place a ladder next to the drivers side door. Climb it. Chances are you may not be able to see the scratches. Light reflection will always emphasise when viewed side on which is basically what you are doing from ground level viewing roof level. I doubt you will ever fix this "problem"...
