  1. Another Hi from Oz

  3. Aaaaaaaaargh!!! Carved a sign wrong!! (I hate Flexi)

Wayne is right... I ALWAYS export as a CMX into Flexi and cuts right everytime. BUT I also do a sample of CMX, DXF, and EPS just to see the minute differences.

Hey Joe... just paint a rounded corner frame, - say deep (but bright) blue, remove the acrylics and paint the backs the same colour as well as the studs / screws... maybe a rounded frame around those? . Maybe the best you can do apart from adding some hdu flourishes or something...

  11. Sign Painting Kit?

@ Jill: "the alphabets torn out of Mastering Layout" I can't believe you said that...lol
  12. So how do you learn to letter by hand?

I generally find that those that have disdain are those that can't do it. Simple. But yes I CAN plot and print vinyl - same as the other person.
  13. Is there anything you won't print/paint?

Other sign companies artwork. That's about it. just today I saw a sign of my artwork. To the lawers on Monday.

    Better late than never...lol
  15. Turn $20 into $5000 - is it possible?

I would DEFINATELY challenge that... those that understand the makeup of both the substrate and the paint would be able to remove, and cut back / polish without any "memory" of the sign / paint ever being there. Might be a good opportunity to ask your father or brother to educate you...
  16. First shot at business card layout

In todays world, one does not have to highlight "Hamburgers with egg, hamburgers with bacon, hamburgers with pineapple" etc etc etc. "Hamburgers" is sufficient, the rest is a given. When advertsing, we put " Signs, shopfronts, banners, vehicles" THAT'S IT !!!! The rest is assumed or in...
  17. Turn $20 into $5000 - is it possible?

Pat Whately got me thinking about "hand lettering" and the whole - new versus old, technology versus talent, argument that seems to raise it's head often. This may encompass many different forum categories, so I apologise up front. Whilst I don't wish to (but probably will) raise a them v us...
  18. So how do you learn to letter by hand?

Hi Pat There are many great and some stupid (ridiculous) comments to this thread. I for one cannot simply go up to a wall and "paint" it old style. But to pounce, trace, project and paint on a blank substrate... probably up there with the majority (not best) of them. What I can say...
  19. Is it customer's fault or mine

For goodness sakes it's an "r". 99% of people would not pick it up. Life is too short. Come to some sort of agreement, forget who is to "blame", and move on. It's like a dropped memento... if you drop it you are the worst person on earth... if I drop it it's a mistake. It's nothing more...
  20. Manual hole punch/PVC?

Jill, drilling is easy. All you need to do is "sandwich" the acrylic between say mdf, and drill away. BUT !!! a pilot hole will always help, AND do not apply any pressure. Let the drill do the work. Basically, just "rest" the drill and pull the trigger. It will be a lot slower than usual, but...
