  1. Falcon Outdoor JR questions, heaters, banding

What is a good starting point for the heaters? I am getting banding and my red letters are fuzzy. I bought this unit used and I do not think the previous owner ever got the settings right. I've had the unit a while now and I cannot depend upon it printing the same from one day to the next.
  2. Is this to be expected?

That stuff cuts like butter and leaves a nice edge. In the future you may try cutting it out yourself if you have a jig saw. I also use a small belt sander to clean up any waves.
  3. Falcon Outdoor Jr. help

:thankyou:,BTW I have a hard time with spelling too.
  4. Copper sulfate treated Lumber eats aluminum

I'm surprised Laminators/ Nudo, do not put warnings about this. I remember to Avery A8 catastrophe, I had 5 rolls of different colors go bad. They did not warn anybody about it after they knew they screwed up and the material was being used. My distributor also was told to be quite about it, in...
  5. Copper sulfate treated Lumber eats aluminum

I used Laminators' luster board. I also had Alumilite erode away. It is the copper that makes an electric pull on the aluminum. The paint has nothing to do with it since the bare edges were touching the copper in the wood.

    Have you ever replaced heads?
  7. Large signs

Are you guys being a bit hard on this guy? Here is my first dimensional sign I did. 2) 4 x 6 x 2" ceders panels. The customer wanted a a circle creek with a cabin that matched the color of his an some deer & trees. I said sure we can do it. I ask a sign guy about what to use... 1400 lbs of...
  8. Large signs

I used 3/4 mdo doweled with 3/8" dowels and a jig. Use bar clamps and glue. Then position 1 1/2" HDU to the sheets and glue. Strapped 2 x 4s, a few across the seams on the back side. Make your final contour, route edge, them paint. I used PL 400 glue. it's similar to liquid nails. (my first HDU...
  9. 2 sided sandblasted sign ?

Use 18 lb foam 2" thick if the sign is about 12 sq ft and up. The denser foam holds the screw a little better. I grind out the lag threads extra deep with an angle grinder also. (Some of these china screws have very shallow threads.)
  10. Anyone injection mold signs?

I used to design injection molds. They are very costly and you must have large volume to justify the tooling. The press needed for such a size would have to be over 500 ton.
  11. Plywood Sign Advice

Alumilite is too flimsy and dent prone to just stick between to poles. I always end up framing it in with edge seal if it touches treated wood. Is there a better way? note: corrosion from copper sulfate treated wood
  12. Plywood Sign Advice

For big low cost temp signs, use corroplast and 7/16 OSB. I do a lot of site signs with that combo. Just liquid nail the boards together. OSB $6 to $15 depending upon hurricanes. and corro $8 - $10. $2 glue
  13. Falcon Outdoor Jr. help

AT $500 to drive 50 miles to my door and $225/hr mechanical fixes only, I learn fast. Can you get the inside scoop on it easy?? The techs I've spoken with do not share much.
  14. mdo vs metal faced mdo

I have struggled using Luster for the mentioned reasons, plus it cost more. I have dampened and smeared Gorilla glue on the edges of MDO. Is there a better way of sealing them? I started trying Benjamen Moor Super Spec pearl, latex, a high quality paint instead of the one shot bulletin because...
  15. mdo vs metal faced mdo

That what "J Cook" primer recommends! :omg:
  16. mdo vs metal faced mdo

I use Gorrilla or Elmers equiv. glue and edge trim edges. Make sure you watch out for oozing. Sealing is critical especially if using treated lumber. (See thread in tips)
  17. Copper sulfate treated Lumber eats aluminum

It is frustrating when the distributors put all the burden on you and take no responsibility as a middle man. N Glance would not even give me full credit from Orical replacement vinyl to trade on supplies like stripper wheels and Rapid Remover.
  18. Copper sulfate treated Lumber eats aluminum

They replace the ones I first found, but the total redo's were far more cost to me. I had a batch of material once delaminate but caught it before I used the sheets. I have a file labeled bad vinyl, I keep all my cases in there including the jobs that had 5 rolls of Avery A8 that went south...
  19. Falcon Outdoor Jr. help

:thumb: I was told the print heads are very hard to align so you must ship the whole printer back, (a $2000+ cost for me going from OH to Sign Warehouse TX) I thankfully only needed to replace the maintenance station. Can they be aligned without the big $$?
  20. mutoh rockhopper 38 heads & dampers

I am not sure just what your problem is, I just replaced my maintenance station $400 and now my colors are working fine. This needs to be replaced every few years so you get a good seal and and a good cleaning on the head.
