  1. Sp540v roland

Welllll, this may not be a lot of help, but my VS540 would print, laminate, read the registration marks, and cut pretty well for the first 5 years....then NOT! I would run two sets of the identical job, ( just for ease of handling & laminating). I would put one back into the machine to cut, and...
  2. Suggestions Airplane graphics

Just FYI ....the examples that were NOT airliners, were experimental category...thus, very few regs apply on what you can stick to them! If they do have to be paint, you could still offer design and stencil cutting services to the paint shop....but as some others have noted, it's a specialized...
  3. HP315

totally agree.....the HP videos are pretty good and comprehensive....he even addresses some of the common faults, and provides tips and workarounds! ( tacitly admitting that the machine isn't good at everything!) I usually skip the first and last minute, and turn the video speed up to 1.25 at...
  4. Question glass chipping issues - glue doesn't want to chip

Not an expert.....I've only done a few....but we used horse-hide glue. Did you have success with the same glue, and water ratio, and sandblast grit, and same glass type before? Hard to nail down if there are multiple variables. Got it VERY hot before applying, then after partial drying, hit it...
  5. OEM vinyl stripes air egress? picture inside

well, if you know it's 3M 1080....why not look that up? 3M clearly says that it's ControlTac, with air release channels, and that it should be applied dry. https://cdn.myvink.be/73/5e/6943/instructions-3m-sp-1080-preparation-application-maintenance-removal-eng.pdf Go ahead and try it wet...
  6. Whats the max width for a sign on a single post?

Yes you can beef up everything....but.....Is that really the sign copy? THAT's what determines the width of a layout! Who said it has to be 3' wide? Use a different condensed font, and make the sign 24" wide and 36" tall. Problem solved. :)
  7. Wall mural on tile - wall of pain?

Sometimes these kind of jobs make me ask 'why?' .....first. Is a wrap really the best way of getting an image on there? How long before they are tired of it, and want to change? Sometimes I think that mounting a half-dozen sheets of 4'x10' ACM that you've imaged in the shop, would be a...
  8. How do you get Adobe Filters to work in Flexi?

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure I recently saw a Mark Rugen/ Flexi training video that included how to use these plugins.....might be worth a search?
  9. HP 365 & Duratex Mesh Banner - Pulling my Hair out!

Tough job....troubleshooting. I see one thing worth mention, and you called it first! NO OTHER MEDIA HAS GIVEN THE MACHINE ANY PROBLEM so, have you tried other mesh? If Duratex prints ok for 10', then something is probably happening at 7'....or perhaps right from the start! tracking, roll...
  10. Okay, I think I have a winner here..................................................................................

so......have you printed 'em yet????? hahahaaaaaaaaaaaa.....by the way, he is NOT a Sign Maker of any kind, please don't even use those words...he's a SALESMAN! that's how he has these big clients...and somehow for 20 years he has found suck....ummm.....qualified sign makers to hold his hand...
  11. Coroplast; Cutting irregular shapes

Ok, since nobody has mentioned it: a router template. Let's say you want to do a christmas tree shape out of 10mm coro. 20 of them Get a chunk of MDF, jigsaw to shape, cleanup the shape by sanding etc. You could do only half the tree if you want to save 'time'....just flip it ( mirror)...
  12. Hiring Designers for my Sign Company

I can see where 'layout' can be juxtaposed with 'design'.....but in any case, every person who applies for a job creating graphic elements for signage..... needs to be able to recite, line and verse.....the 'bible'.... ( thank goodness it's back in 'print'!)
  13. Vinyl Image Cracking After Clear Coat

Lots going on there....a photo would probably help us armchair trouble-shooters! a couple of observations; -auto clear has a LOT of solvent, assuming you sprayed it. (Don't ask me why Frog Juice seems to be better, it's like frickin' magic or something. gotta be the good deadly isocyanates in...
  14. Need Help Print huge wine bottle label for corrugated water tank on farm

sounds like a job for a heavyweight banner. Most corrugated steel is galvanized,....and nasty to apply vinyl to! Plus the surface is constantly oxidizing, so I've seen vinyl sheeting start to lift and fail in short order. Sell them on the idea that they can change it easily, even seasonally! it...
  15. HP Latex Undetermined Head Issue

Hey gang....just a new 365 user, trying to learn to troubleshoot! If the head 'works' for one side, why would it be bad just at the end of each pass? 1. What if you ran a test with the heat 'off'. that would eliminate uneven heating. 2. If the optimizer isn't being applied uniformly, would...
  16. Blackout windows with panels

A cautionary tale for anyone who runs across this kind of thing.... the short version: if the sun hits the glass, the light is normally passed THROUGH....( 97% or...). If you apply a dark colour to the glass, it will ABSORB the energy, and the glass will heat up ....a LOT! longer version; I...
  17. Gerber Dimension 200 - Sitting for 20 Years

Gerber is famous for taking really decent equipment, and rebranding it as their own. Somewhere on that machine MIGHT be a clue to the actual manufacturer...although the likelihood of parts or support being still available is dicey at best. A nice find anyway, if you have the time and gumption...
  18. Is an HP Latex Printer "Safe" in a Small, Unventilated Office Space?

Since nobody has asked....WHAT is being printed? IF I run cheap matte vinyl decals with a simple light black text, there is very little smell; as some have noted, the warm vinyl is gassing off something, more than the ink. IF you are printing full-coverage wraps or wall pictorials, 150% ink...
  19. HP latex 360 vs 365

Yeah, gee....you wouldn't want to actually use an HP machine that you paid $30,000 for, to last 10 years, right? I wonder about the 365? Thousands of them out there, in our case, bought last month..... as it was about the only viable option for printing Traffic reflectives ( 3M certified)...
  20. Need help with a font ID. Tried 2 notable font finding sites.

how DOES your brain DO that???? .....sometimes I can only remember the first 6 font cartridges that we had for our Gerber IVb! .....and even those have gotten lost in the fog of digital 'free' knock-offs! Remember Friz Quadrata?...I think corelDraw bastardized that into 'Fritz' something or...
