  1. Quality of Large Prints- Wall Graphics

Old rule used to be an A3 artwork for a 48 sheet poster (across the street at 30mph). Now we've got giant on (rail) platform posters athat require way more resolution. Your Shutterstock etc may be good enough at sensible viewing distance, but now you're able to provide your client with larger...
  2. 2023 wrapup

Moving to a new premises in the spring, larger workspace, with time to plan storage, and space to upgrade facilities. Room to bring on one, then two apprentices, so I can take a week off without having to do two weeks work the week before, and two weeks work the week after. Getting control of...
  3. Your Physical Health

Covid regime helped us bring people into the world of appointments (just like all the barbor shops around me now do). Walks ins are frowned upon. Music not talk, yep, hate listening to political voices on the way in, and have a decent set of speakers around the production area. I let amazon...
  4. Looking for slitter recommendations

The video down at the tail end of the page, just before frequently bought together section. Yep, price does look good, real good, and I like the idea that tilt for transport and storage is built in, but the instructional video is next level.
  5. Looking for slitter recommendations

That looks so wrong, and yet, wow. Ya gotta have a look at the lamination table - the video for this operation is mindblowing!
  6. Lamanites for Acrylic

I'd get hold of a relatively inexpensive roller laminator. Flood coat some white 3mm PVC with something like Drytac Mediatac, then apply this to the back of the print. If the face is not protected, I'd apply the PVC to the back using a small brayer roller.
  7. Customers in production areas

Six foot dobermans - You gotta let them know who's boss (though by the time you hung framed posters on them, they'll likely be compliant.
  8. State sign license in texas

Used to work with a guy called Clinton who only used the abreviated form of his name, and could only write in poorly formed capital letters.
  9. Equipment Redundancy - Bad idea to rely on one printer?

Just don't find anything that the Epson does, that you like better than the Canon does, because then you'll need a back up of the backup...
  10. Just hadda share this one.......................................................

She's waiting to hear back from the detailing guy. Gotta get it nice and clean before the letters go on.
  11. Adhesive backed photobase vs printable vinyl

Ideally you use a D, or a P, though you could use an L or a Pw. https://www.magicinkjet.com/products/siena200lpsa/#tab-id-3 I hope that makes things clear.
  12. Display lightboxes - would anyone use static cling as only printed graphic layer

I'll talk with the lightbox designers, but the drawings don't show a diffusion layer. If there is one, then I'd consider suggesting they order Duraclear® prints, otherwise, I've got a pretty good Duratrans® substitute. Down side of subbing out the printing is I still need to work out the...
  13. Channel Letter measurement tool

Pretty sure the free Graphtec Cutting Master plug in will tell you cut length (if you happen to have a Graphtec).
  14. En Garde!!!

Coroplast is lacking in heft, even 10mm, unless the finishing addition is still on the table. Then it would be a very subtly disguised customer correction sword.
  15. Display lightboxes - would anyone use static cling as only printed graphic layer

Fortunately, these are not celebrity award* winning architects. *award for most energy conserved in a 2nd grade egg & spoon race.
  16. Display lightboxes - would anyone use static cling as only printed graphic layer

I'm not sure they're having anything other than the 2mm front panel. Box is 100mm deep, so I can work without the diffuser. Spec for led back light is yet to be determined, so I can control (be responsible for) the illuminant level, and colour balance... Thinking to take readings (either with an...
  17. Display lightboxes - would anyone use static cling as only printed graphic layer

These are very custom made lightboxes. The plans specifically call out "front cover panel 2mm acrylic captures graphic printed on clear static cling vinyl", which I thought was a strange choice. I can print to match density of durartrans (clear second layer behind translucent front print layer)...
  18. Display lightboxes - would anyone use static cling as only printed graphic layer

Thank you all for your help & suggestions! Working on this, though there is a complex combination of client, architect and the firm designing the construction of the light boxes (details of brightness and colour temp TBC) Faces are removable, held in with 6 bolts. I'd assumed that there would...
  19. Display lightboxes - would anyone use static cling as only printed graphic layer

I should mention, that I only have a little aqueous printer, but have pretty good combination of backlit front print film, and acetate, which I can run in perfect register. From what I can see from their drawings, there is no middle diffusing layer, and only a 2mm acrylic face for the static...
  20. Display lightboxes - would anyone use static cling as only printed graphic layer

We have a firm of architects who want us to produce prints for a set of lightboxes. These will display photographic art-work. Images will be A0 (33-1/8 x 46-13/16 in) in size, and the drawings they've sent over for the light boxes seem to be designed to only accept static cling on reverse of...
