  1. 4 color VS. 6 color solvent? goods & bads?

Simple.... 4 color uses less ink overall, may go faster than 6 color if in a 2x4 vs 1x6 setup, and looks "grainier" up close. 6 color will have the perception of higher resolution, use more ink, and may have harder times drying when printing black due to how the light inks transition to the...
  2. Hp9000s not seeing adjustment for light cyan and magenta in onyx 6.5

They are adjusted in the Media Manager. But you would not normally adjust them for an individual job. If you're adjusting color for an individual job, the light inks scale along with the full inks when you make adjustments in Preflight. IOW, don't sweat it.
  3. Are you superstitious at work?

considering that superstitions are born from trying to control something we don't understand, I think we all have at at least a few in the shop.
  4. Custom color profiles

YOu have to start with a RIP that will allow you the flexibility and tools to progress through the various steps. You need a proper spectrophotometer like an EyeOne. Densitometers and colorimeters don't measure color in a way that works with an ICC profile. You need software that makes the ICC...

  6. Seiko ink

VERY interesting. My M head went haywire overnight about that time. I just thought it was getting old. Maybe time to switch inks!
  7. Gray is Green

Even if you make our own profiles and everything is perfect, you still have to deal with inconsistency in the process. Grays are tough to do well and really separate those that can from those that struggle. Be ready to make you own profiles as well as relinearizing and reprofiling if it has to...
  8. hp9000 not priming heads

Turns out the gear that sits outside the housing of the pumps was stripped just enough that if it was not engaged with the pumps it would turn, but if I held my hand on the axle a bit, it would just sit and not spin. To my ignorant eye, it looked like I could just pull the offending gear...
  9. Parts from China?

My window is closing so I bought from inkjet performance For a little more $ I'm getting it tomorrow AM and can get back to printing. The communication with ebon was silly-slow. I tried to order from them since last Wednesday. They would not answer my emails and extended a simple buying...

  12. hp9000 not priming heads

Pulled all the prime pumps and they each move individually. Running the prime without the pumps on, the gears move. Looks like something with the shared actuating gears has stripped that I can't see. Any ideas?
  13. hp9000 not priming heads

It appears that the prime assemblies (little pumps connected to the caps) are not doing their jobs. None of them move during a cleaning. All the gears on the outside face of the capping assembly move during prime/cleaning. But the pumps don't move. I tried spinning the gears that share an...
  14. PRinter Parts

I got 2 JV3 heads. All went as expected.
  15. Is anyone using 3rd party ink for jv3

+1 triangle for 4 years and running. 3rd party inks are best paired with the ability to make your own profiles. Most frustrations with 3rd party inks come from the system not being setup for each individual media.
  16. Wierd Color (HELP)

measure the white of the material in LAB. If the "b" value is more negative than -4 or -5, you may have UV issues in the ICC. A fun trick is to shine a black light on the paper. If it glows, you've got optical brighteners in the material.
  17. Wierd Color (HELP)

As Rooster mentions, check the numerical mixes in the file to rule that out or in. It may also be an issue with UV phosphorescence in the media causing the profiling software to over react and think you media is more blue than it really is. The symptom of this is yellow highlights and quarter...

I just checked their ftp and didn't see it. Just call them?
  19. RGB from X3 to X5 problems.

Look at your COREL x5 settings where it defines how RGB files are handled on the right hand side. It says it is for import and paste to Convert to Document Color for RGB. I know you're opening, and the settings look appropriate for that. But I'm just seeing something that may be playing a role...
  20. RGB from X3 to X5 problems.

Converting from one RGB to another will certainly change the RGB while at the same time not changing the CMYK values. how does one open an x3 in x5? I feel like i'm missing something here.
