When using Corel Draw and you want to outline text you use the outline pen tool and choose how big you want the outline. When using Adobe Illustrator you use the storke, you can make the stroke the size and color you want. But, what about Photoshop? I am having to re work a banner that was...
  2. Hot fix Rinestone source?

We do a lot of things, wholesale novelty signs, custom print security signs, screenprint coroplast and have a Sign & Banner shop for the locals. Recently we bought an M&R I Dot DTG printer and have been using from local T shirt runs to printing our own product to sell in town to the tourest...
  3. hole signs

Last year I did a golf tourniment. I gave them a fair price and learned a hard lesson. I got all but one of the logos in extremely poor quality and spent most my time fixing that. One of the guys running the show was a big dog at one of the local banks and I remember him asking if there was...
  4. dots on a film positive to show same color

Your printer has to support haltones. I do not know if a versacam does or not. Many laser printers do. If the image is small use a post script laser printer. Epson inkjet printers can be used but you have to have expensive software to convert the image to halftones.

  6. Painted Substrate?

I am still new at this and need some basic questions answered. Driving around town I see a lot of signs ( Mostly 4' x 8' ) that are painted MDO with vinyl lettering on them. My question is that wouldn't it be easier to just print everything on one large piece of vinyl and put it on the...
  7. Thanks Signs 101

After several posts, an offer of help and talking to a couple of members on the phone I successfully installed my first Trailer vinyl. I got a lot of good advice from the forum here. The graphics are the customers choice except for the small logo which I made to match his big one.. I'm only...
  8. Cut Vinyl vs Print & Cut

Maybe I was not clear. I have a print & Cut. My Summa DC4 prints & cuts. I do not have a stand alone cutter. Is there a need for one? Do I need to laminate vehicle lettering that I produce with my print and cut? Thanks Signs Up
  9. Cut Vinyl vs Print & Cut

Being new to this business I was not around when cutters were all that was available. I understand that a lot of stuff can be done by layering different colored vinyl but now it is so easy to just print everything and then cut it out. But what about lettering? If someone wants some colored...
  10. Lettering Pricing

I would have done it in ALL CAPS. I just wrote it that way here on the forum. I noticed the window looking like a black background when I drove by, but after I had suggested the two colors. I know now. Thanks
  11. Lettering Pricing

The guy wanted something that would show up. He said he wanted 1' letters....."For Lease" with phone #. I suggested Black background with yellow letters, 10 sq. ft. I told him $100.00. I drove by the other day and he had two foot White letters on it. Was I too much? I'm just trying to get...
  12. Lettering Pricing

Curious about what to charge for simple window lettering? I lost the first request for this to someone else. I really do not have a clue what others charge. Do you charge by the linear inch depending on how tall the letters are? Do you charge for time? Signs Up

I have made a couple recent posts about 14' Wells Fargo Trailer. I received some very gratefull and good advice. THANKS! Anyway, I tried to install today over screws ( 3.5' x 8' contol Tac & 8519 ) This was my first attempt. Most of it was good. I screwed it up at the finish and had to tear...
  15. 14' Wells Fargo Trailer

Thanks all, probably going to take out the screws. What kind of squeegee is best. I was practicing going over the rivots with a Big Squeegee tool. Is this the best or should I use a regular squeegee with some tape on it? The vinyl is 3.5' x 8' I am going to start on the left side and...
  16. 14' Wells Fargo Trailer

Wrinkle Trail I am going to install Wed.afternoon. I am half determined to try to go over screws. I practiced on some sheetmetal and screws in the shop. I carefully went over the screws and kept going. In between the screws is a tent of an air bubble running from screw to screw. I pushed...
  17. 14' Wells Fargo Trailer

I posted about this earlier. We are about to put vinyl on a friends trailer. It is our first job like this. We printed on 3m Control Tac and laminated with 3m 8519. vinyl is 3.5' x 8'. It has been suggested that we take out the screws, put on the vinyl and put the screws back. This...
  18. Edges of Vinyl

I did some full color signs 18" x 24". Some were coroplast and the others Maxmetal. I cut my vinyl slightly larger than 18" x 24", applied it to substrate, fliped it over and trimed the edges. If I run my finger across edge I can catch vinly and pull it up. Are there any tricks to getting...
  19. Cutting Substrates

Thanks Festool, I forgot about those. I've seen them at Woodcraft. I now have a great excuse to go get one. Thanks Signs Up
  20. Cutting Substrates

I do not have a panel saw. I see that Grimco has a "Fletcher-Terry Substrate Cutter". Has anyone used one of these? Are they as good as Gromco claims? But untill I can get one or the other, I will have to use my skill saw with a straight edge. What is the best type of blade to cut with...
