  1. Found another article worth sharing.

Buying a business that requires high knowledge and skills without the personnel is usually a bad idea. It is an especially bad idea if you never owned a business. I would usually encourage anyone with the willpower and passion to start a business, it can be a wonderful experience, all in all...
  2. Applying Vinyl To Boards With A Roll To Roll Laminator

We have a roll to roll laminator which we exclusively use to apply laminate to our vinyl, mostly for car wraps. I am curious if you guys use roll to roll laminators for applying vinyl to boards (foamex for example) instead of doing it manually ? We've considered doing it for a job once where...
  3. Coroplast vs PVC Foam Boards (foamex)

Hey, In the last few days I saw a few videos from signs101 members and it seems that the substrate of choice on here is coroplast. In my shop I don't think we've ever used it, we always use foamex. Why do you use Coroplast and is there any advantage to using it compared to foamex ?
  4. New DX5 printheads cause a line at 60cm

Well I have a lot of thoughts about the situation. As easy as it would be to blame Epson and foresee how they're a bloated enemy in a crumbling castle I'm afraid it's a bit more complicated than that, at least from my perspective. I'm not sure that I have all the info but if I understood it...
  5. Why do my panels never line up?

I was under the impression that they don't line up well on the table either ? If they line up on the table perfectly but don't when you apply them it's clearly an issue with the application, that's a no brainer.
  6. ROLAND VS-640 Service Manual?

Oh so it's a print manual ? I just assumed that it's like a PDF or something.
  7. New DX5 printheads cause a line at 60cm

This is some really fascinating stuff. I've just talked to some guys from WIT Color which is a Chinese printer maker that also does (did) DX5 models. They told me that this is in fact a problem on the new DX5 heads but that they have supposedly found a way to get around it and get it to print...
  8. Cut Line Issue, Not Transparency Related

Eh, I'm an idiot. I saw it in his OP, but he said he sees those when he enables cut image boundaries. My mistake. I apologize.
  9. Cut Line Issue, Not Transparency Related

Guys if he is getting the ants it means that VersaWorks has recognized the cut line so that's out of the question. The export from Illustrator doesn't matter anymore, VersaWorks sees the cut lines. The question is now - Why doesn't it cut. This is a ridiculous suggestion but are you sure...
  10. Why do my panels never line up?

The reason it pulls towards one side more is: 1) Because of the previous issue of alignment, it may not be coming out straight from the machine 2) The way you take the vinyl onto the take up roll. We have gotten a hang of it by just doing one piece of tape in the middle but at first we did 3...
  11. Dr. has left the house and it's not good

Just goes to show how important knowledge in life can be. At least your technician diagnosed the problem, ours aren't even able to do that. We just cut them off, found a third party technician to do stuff that requires some things we don't know/don't want to do and we just do most of the...
  12. Dr. has left the house and it's not good

I've heard a very similar story on here about a Roland board and some chip on or resistor, something like that. He also said that it was like $10-20 bucks including the fuel it took him to go to radio shack :D
  13. Dr. has left the house and it's not good

How much did they estimate you for the repairs ? EDIT: Did you tell the guy that's not comfortable replacing it that there is no harm done if it goes kapoof ? While the possibility exists that he could screw up the board as long as he does this sort of thing on a regular basis the risk isn't...
  14. Dr. has left the house and it's not good

Well you know I assumed that he didn't want to do it himself and that he would get someone to do it for him, that someone needs to be paid so I assumed $100-200 :)
  15. Dr. has left the house and it's not good

and if he's already planning on replacing the motherboard there is no harm in trying, worst case scenario it's ruined and you lose nothing, best case you have it repaired for like 1/10 the price of a new one and continue working with it for years to come.
  16. Vinyl signs out in the wind ? how do you cut air flaps ?

Those things are hideous. If the banner is really big they won't help either. If it's a really big thing print it on mesh. It won't have the same color intensity but it's pretty much the only way to do other than securing banner to a wall with profiles or the like. We print decently sized...
  17. What's "straight" on a van?

    Good call. Now it's good.
  18. ROLAND VS-640 Service Manual?

Robert M on here had it if I remember correctly. You can try contacting him or search the forum, it has been brought up a few times. If you get it please upload it somewhere and post the link here so that others may be able to get it without having to ask for it. That's the spirit of the...
  19. Cutter always at max pressure.

So no matter what setting you configure on the computer or the cutter (does the cutter have an option to configure the speeds and pressure on it or is it all from the computer ?) it still does max pressure. Also what pressure do the computer/cutter indicate ?
  20. Grommet Machine Question

Our grommet machine is similar and it can't pierce frontlit banner on it's own. Not a big deal we just usually pre-pierce it a bit manually and then do the rest with the grommet. If it worked before and doesn't now I'd take a look at the grommets, if they're from the same batch as the ones you...
