    agreed.
  2. rgb...cmyk....so cornfused!...ugg

Let's do another test....using a file format that doesn't destroy the image and change the numbers in an effort to compress the file size. Something more appropriate like TIFF. Here's the straight forward test that actually reflects something we might do in a normal day. 1. opened a CMYK file...
  3. rgb...cmyk....so cornfused!...ugg

I get resaving. What does it have to do with some sinister, unwanted color conversion? this is widely agreed upon. Sorry, lost me here. If you open a CMYK file, maybe make some changes that are not color related, save it...even re-save it, when you open it up again, it will have the same CMYK...
  4. rgb...cmyk....so cornfused!...ugg

How does simply saving a file, any file, change it's color? Oh wait, it can if you export to PDF and choose to convert. Otherwise, as mentioned by javila, the only conversion that happens without your intervention is the conversion to the monitor profile for display only. It has zero...
  5. rgb...cmyk....so cornfused!...ugg

PHotoshop will recognize the if incoming files are RGB or CMYK but you have to make a choice what you're going to rasterize to - RGB or CMYK. IOW, photoshop won't automatically make the rasterized version match the original color space of the file. You do not need to ALWAYS make your bitmaps...
  6. Designing, CMYK or RGB?

It frustrates me that a manufacturer's rep would be so wrong. All conversions in our desktop application and the RIP convert from incoming RGB or CMYK by referencing the LAB values defined by the source profile (sometimes called an input profile). Then the conversion gets translated to the...
  7. OEM vehicle wraps coming from Ford

There are more options than Lowen for this certification. I personally know the guys at Wrap Experts and have found them to be nothing short of professional. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Graphics/Scotchprint/Resources/GraphicsInstallationPrograms/Training/
  8. What best RGB setting for profilemaker

True, there is no black generation in an RGB profile. It is about as simple as it gets. Yes, you would likely need an unique profile for the artsy papers since they have very unique results for density and white point.
  9. What best RGB setting for profilemaker

This is an important question. I was wondering the same thing. Neutral grey strives for just what it says. Paper grey allows the color of the substrate (paper) to affect the greys.
  10. What best RGB setting for profilemaker

    +1 for rfulford's settings
  11. Designing, CMYK or RGB?

Why would you start off with a small gamut, export to a larger gamut (with no improvement in the color), then have the RIP convert to the output profile? Wouldn't it make more sense to simply design with a larger color gamut, then have the RIP perform the only conversion in the workflow?
  12. problem with Onyx

An obscure but easy thing to try is to have the source tiff on the local drive. Don't try to pull it across the network directly into onyx. I've seen similar problems and their techs have identified an intermittent bug pulling files across networks.

  14. Grey Gradient on 3M

You're 100% right. But the original theme of the post was color casted greys. Viewing condition plays a HUGE roll in this instance. Hayskul - you don't have to profile....just don't complain when color isn't accurate. In theory the media manufacturers can make profiles for your system. In...
  15. Color issues with flexi 8.6

as mentioned, you monitor profile is just that...for the monitor only. You use it no where else. as mentioned, you need to set your input profiles in your RIP to be either sRGB or Adobe RGB. When in doubt, use sRGB. Set all the rendering intents to Perceptual to simplify the setup. As you learn...
  16. Avery 1005ez rs abrasion on takeup

I'm sure that would help. But I'd rather make it work without. Avery is the only offender. I just ran a full roll of 180v3 with loads of black and flames without any problems. And this was before i made the recent changes.
  17. Avery 1005ez rs abrasion on takeup

+1 Agreed. Followup info is that i printed 6 large tractor/trailer tiles with lots of black with almost no abrasion problems. This is after the increase in heat, big ease on the takeup clutch, and shimming the takeup spindle with some laminated ABV. Looks like i'm out of the woods.

  19. Avery 1005ez rs abrasion on takeup

Those items are exactly where my focus started to go. I did indeed find that the takeup was cranked on as tight as it would go and the spindle was spinning inside the takeup core. I also found that the heat setting was driven by a troubleshooting effort to avoid the lclm head from dropping out...
  20. Avery 1005ez rs abrasion on takeup

Have any of you seen this material abrade the ink off when put on a takeup roll? I have a jv3 160 and have had chronic problems with this in the past. But recently this abrasion is becoming a HUGE problem. The more that winds on the takeup, the more it rubs the ink off its self. I recently...
