  1. "Essential Critical Infrastructure" & "Critical Trades"

Our main customers are hospitals. Right now, we are working with them to get a new Urgent Care opened. I know that they technically can't open with out being ADA compliant or without certain other safety signage. We've also been doing a lot of temporary signage for drive-up triage. But we have...
  2. Should frosted vinyl be installed on the interior or exterior side of windows on storefronts?

Usually exterior. Usually the customer buys this for the benefit of the public seeing it from the outside. The glossy finish of glass can have a glare, which might make text hard to read. Or for a design, prevent it from having an etched appearance.
  3. Cleaning UV ink off flatbed

It goes down thick sometimes when using a backlit setting. If you're doing multiple items with the same width, it can build up quickly. But it can also just peel off like a film in those circumstances.
  4. Cleaning UV ink off flatbed

The previous person before me also let the flatbed belt get built up, but not that bad. I too have been going at it with alcohol and Goof-Off. But that Goof-Off is rough and you need to be careful of overspray. And it isn't the sort of thing to use in short times between prints. I'm also looking...
  5. GA Mutoh pinch rollers for vj1324...

    Have you tried Inkjetparts.com ?
  6. Sponsorship Banners

We also do a lot of sponsorship banners & step-stake signs. It is par for the course. Fortunately for us, many of our customers also order trophies & awards from our other department, so we have their logos in a better format on file. We also keep a logo folder for quick reference too, since so...
  7. WalMart Install 10x8 mural for $240 fair?

Didn't Sam's Club also do this? I seem to remember a display years ago. And they are basically Walmart Bulk.
  8. Asphalt Art Foil, Anyone Have Experience With It?

Sorry for the absence. Between holidays and installs, it got hectic. I ended up printing it on my Valujet 1204. Unfortunately, my manager only ordered a little bit more than what was needed, and we were sent less than what we ordered. It was enough to do the job, but it gave me no extra to...
  9. RIP Gahan Wilson

I don't think I'm familiar with his work. But I went and looked him up and his sense of humor seems right up my alley. I'm sorry he passed. I do try and take a chance to meet some of my favorite illustrators when I get a chance.
  10. Asphalt Art Foil, Anyone Have Experience With It?

Thank you for the advice. You both had some things I hadn't considered. And seeing as how we just replaced some of out flatbed heads, I'm not in the mood to be risky. Still, for us it is only 4 graphics, simple circles. The customer wants us to mark out their parking spots with graphics, so I'm...
  11. Asphalt Art Foil, Anyone Have Experience With It?

I just got an order and some materials from my supervisor to do some graphics to go on asphalt. The material brand we got is Asphalt Art. Has anyone ever worked with this material? Fortunately, the design is simple. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing my plotter would do well cutting, and I...
  12. Need a little work?

For us, we rarely get snow. We get ice. One time, two years back, it was like a constant shower of BB sized ice, but it looks white and snowy. And a lot of transplants from the northern states don't realize that. So they laugh at the southerners who can't drive in the snow and try to show us how...
  13. Best cutting ruler? NOT ALUMINUM!

I hate those sooper rulers. Too often then cast an unwanted shadow. And they're not flat to the material. And trimming off a small edge is a nightmare. I find them awkward, especially on smaller materials. But to each his own. Aluminium ruler are a mess too. Over time, they start to curve from...
  14. down time on HP fb500 Scitex printer

I put mine in 'sleep' mode. But don't shut it down. It needs to run the cleaning cycles. Also, if you are printing with white ink, get one of those mixers that helps keep the ink shaken. In fact, I've gotten into a habit of manually shaking all my inks on Monday. I've had too much trouble with...
  15. HP Scitex FB550 Light Cyan Not Printing

I had this issue with regular cyan. Right in the middle of a print, it started to fade out to nothing. A nozzle check showed ink was flowing, but not at a strong level. It was actually lighter than the light cyan. I was told that the cyan often settles and clogs the nozzles. It was suggested...
  16. What Direction Do You Weed Your Cut Vinyl?

To be clear, as long as the results are good, I don't worry about how someone chooses to weed vinyl. But with 24 years of experience, it was just baffling to be told by a new hire that I was wrong and that was the reason why.
  17. What Direction Do You Weed Your Cut Vinyl?

Thank you for the replies. We have a new employee and she insists that cut vinyl must be weeded left to right because the plotter blade is at a 45 degree angle. It sounded unusual to me, so I was curious if others were doing it that way too.
  18. What Direction Do You Weed Your Cut Vinyl?

I know this seems obvious and simple, but how do you weed your cut vinyl? For instance, if it is 1" Swiss bold, title case, nothing special or fancy... do you weed it from right to left, or from left to right? I've always weeded it right to left, since more letters are open on the right. But I...
  19. Overzealous trademark protection

This isn't isolated. Monster Energy Drinks was suing Mad Monster Party for the same infringement. Using the word "Monster". Of course, as a horror movie convention, Mad Monster Party took their name from a movie from the 60's (I think) and did so with permission. I don't know who the lawyers are...
