  1. 12-Pass = More Ink?

Generally speaking it should be done from the Rip software. I have used Onyx for this so I cant help you. Maybe do a search on your Caldera help menu as it consists of an exact set of instructions per your rips software version. In addition you will need a sprectophotometer to read the results.
  2. What programs to use.

Basic answer: Illustrator for vector. Photoshop for raster. Illustrator can combine both. Using layers as well as a spot color for your dielines. You already have versaworks as a rip to handle your files for print & cut. Versaworks for your CutContour (called out as a spot) from Illustrator...
  3. What is legal?

Man what a classic thread. Some really good suggestions in here! OP finally took the situation into his own hands and dealt with it. I would at first think "you dont pay me I will simply take the sign down" However this is not 1865! Now there could be retribution from the customer...... This...
  4. Laminating Oracal 3651

210 is a cold laminate. If you use heat on 210 matte it will gloss up............ In answer to your other question > What will cause more curl is too much tension on the rollers.
  5. 12-Pass = More Ink?

The canned Orajet profiles are a great starting point. They tend to only post on the website what seems to be fully tested profiles for your rip - printer - media. Most of the guesswork has been dealt with as far as resolution, screen type, color passes, density, temp, etc., etc. This is...
  6. any idea what is causing this?

I have had mixed results laminating retractable stands and generally dont. The printed material needs to be thinner, the laminate needs to be the thinnest textured lam you can find otherwise good luck on the retraction. After all that, if a customer tosses it in a trunk in Alaska or Palm...
  7. any idea what is causing this?

Most of the damage I have seen to these is when someone (usually someone under 5 feet) is setting them up or taking them down and wham they let the top of the bar go.
  8. Versacamm = AWFUL TRACKING

5 will be better than 3. 2 is a waste of time unless its a square! IMHO when cutting something small go to 54" and set all pinch rollers to produce a better final product.
  9. Pro4 XR-640 ink configuration change - possible?

We were told that you could NOT change out the metallic ink when looking to purchase a XR. It ended up being a deciding factor not to purchase one.
  10. Versacamm = AWFUL TRACKING

What Pat said ^^^ In addition on the Roland Soljet 540 you need to be really careful of how the material is feeding as it is cutting. It needs a clear path for the material in the front of the printer. Also, you should try and use all the pinch rollers.
  11. Proper Preflight Method

Most of todays rips can handle non flattened PDF's (PDF 1.4 and above). So there is no need to "flatten the transparency" of a PDF. This should be greyed out in the Advanced section when you are saving out your .pdf.
  12. Proper Preflight Method

Same here..........If a file is vector (Illustrator) keep it vector based > PDF. Flattening it to a raster will limit resizing for a larger output. If the file is built in (Photoshop) and is raster based anyway, a flattened tiff at full size with no compression should be fine.
  13. Photoshop files... Who else hates 'em?

Just checking your export settings - you should have the bottom box checked that says "discard layers and save a copy"
  14. Photoshop files... Who else hates 'em?

+ 1 on Phototecs reply........... + 2 on Design Chimps link above! A lot of good replies above flattened .tiff file is the best choice. One thing that can make quick work of sloppy layer files is to highlight several of the layers with the option key down then go to the top right pull down on...
  15. adobe illustrator CC ?

I am not saying it wont work. I was just trying to play devil's advocate. Sure you can make a stand on what the latest file you wil accept, but you are in danger of distancing yourself from the shop who has the latest and greatest.
  16. adobe illustrator CC ?

Yeah without competition its a given. Adobe has definately cornered the market.
  17. adobe illustrator CC ?

! .................. ! Cant believe I fell for that. I am a bit green 'round here.
  18. adobe illustrator CC ?

No disrespect but Power Point? You are not serious?
  19. adobe illustrator CC ?

Best to get it back saved to be safe. It will usually say created by a newer version of illustrator some data loss will occur. DO NOT OPEN IT THIS WAY. The image wil get all wonky. Layers will get lost. Transparency will go away. WARNING.
  20. Wow it's cold out!

Going up in a bucket in these temperatures is just plain wrong. I had some brain surgeon ask me to install ABV lettering in a bucket mounted to painted concrete.... In the rain! I warned him its a pourous surface and it wont hold. I just priced it high to let someone else deal with it.
