  1. Hard Hat Decal Material

I make mine with 3M 40C w/ 3M 8508 overlaminate. No issues with the hard hats and tools that my customers are putting them on.
  2. Need Help Which 3M

Just curious why you use 3650-10 for signs? I've never used it before and took a look at the specs. Through Grimco it looks to be more expensive than the 180VC3. Why not just use IJ180CV3 and not have to stock multiple types of cast vinyl. Currently I use 40C and IJ180CV3 for flat signs...
  3. Stripe Kit

If I was planning on doing the same type of car multiple times I would take the time to make templates and recreate them in your software to plot them off. If it is a one off job I'd use knifeless tape.
  4. Stripe Kit

A guy came in with a newer Camaro a couple weeks back that wanted multi-colored racing stripes down the entire car and when I quoted him $1750 using 3M 180mC his jaw about hit the floor...... customer's usually think it's a simple job and have no idea the amount of labor that goes into it to do...
  5. 3M print 40C

Here's the product bulletin for 40C with the recommended overlaminates. The 8508-8510 is only rated for up to 4 years....... it doesn't actually provide much UV protection. To get the most UV protection I use the 8518-8520. http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1001244O/product-bulletin-40c.pdf
  6. Customer of the Day

Just thought it was funny.... a customer comes in asking how long of a guarantee I give on my work. I knew I had done something for him but didn't recognize him to remember what it was. So I proceeded to tell him there's a number of factors such as the type of vinyl, lamination, vertical vs...
  7. Looking for a rough draft/example/template for signage contract

Even liens may drag on. I've got a brother-in-law that has an excavation company that did some work a couple years back for a wedding venue that was close to $30k and was only paid half. He put a lien on the property and keeps it up to date and charges interest on it. One day when they go to...
  8. Where can one get an RV Template?

You could take pictures directly from all sides. Measure known points on the vehicle and scale the pictures to size in your software.
  9. Discussion Just how frickin' stupid can people really be........... ??

I keep a double sided sample arrow sign in the showroom so that I can visually show them. A lot of people have a hard time getting the concept of arrow direction without actually seeing it.
  10. 3M print 40C

I use 3M 40C-10R for just about everything but vehicle wraps and short term signage. I make quite a bit of safety floor graphics for a local factory using it with the 3645 overlaminate. Use the 8508 for generic decals, 8518 for outdoor signage, contour cut vehicle graphics, box truck and trailer...
  11. Discussion Just how frickin' stupid can people really be........... ??

It's amazing how dumb people can be. I had a job like this a couple years back and the scary thing is this person worked for our local county emergency services department. Design proof was approved and vehicle was striped and lettered as per the proof. A few days after it was finished I get a...
  12. Discussion Just how frickin' stupid can people really be........... ??

My favorites are the idiots that call or stop in and ask if you make "whatever" then ask how much without giving you any information at all to know what they are needing beyond the generic term decal, sign, etc. I usually tell them well anywhere between my shop minimum ($45) and a million. I...
  13. Large Stripe

I always do it dry using an air egress vinyl such as 3M 180mC. I don't think the knifeless tape will work with wet application, but I could be wrong.
  14. Wrap(ish) Question...

Door handles are very easy to remove on Chevrolet trucks, I remove them and the emblems. Most of my customers don't want the the emblems back on the vehicle because they are not worth salvaging and new ones would need to be purchased, at least ones with individual letters like the Chevy trucks...
  15. Large Stripe

Lay out your lines using Knifeless Design Line Tape, install larger piece of vinyl over the area and tape. Then it's as simple as pulling the filament to cut the vinyl, pull off the excess vinyl and tape carrier, then resquegee the vinyl. Very easy to use when you've got to follow body lines...
  16. What would you guys charge for a 3x6 color vinyl print with laminate?

Our shop is in Greenville, just 15 minutes from the Indiana line and about 40 minutes NW of Dayton.
  17. Do you hem all sides of banner?

Standard banners get all four sides hemmed 1" using Orabond 1397PP hem tape here. Anything requiring a "nicer" sewed finish, pole pockets or webbing gets sent out to be sewed. Haven't had an issue yet with hem tape. Usually the banner material is deteriorated before the tape ever gives out.
  18. Need Help Mark Scan Error

First thing I would check is that the print size is printed at it's correct size. I've ran into an issue where my HP 360 will go to sleep overnight and if I just restart it without unloading and reloading the roll it will print about 1/4" to 1/2" short. Just measure and double check that your...
  19. What would you guys charge for a 3x6 color vinyl print with laminate?

Gino Just curious why you are putting down my $.50 / Sq. Ft price for mounting? Our prices appear to be pretty similar so you must be charging roughly the same for mounting...... You said you would do the job for $135 per Sign x 8 Signs + a 10% discount = $972 Depending on what vinyl / lam I...
  20. What would you guys charge for a 3x6 color vinyl print with laminate?

Chances of a laminator going completely down are pretty slim...... I'd be more worried about my printer going down. Unless it's a mechanical issue I can wheel it by hand just as fast through the laminator if it would be an electrical issue..... and yeah, what sign shop doesn't have big squeegee...
