  1. Print Shop Window layout

Erin, for what it's worth to you, I try to track our clients signage "Return on Investment" and can tell you that the biggest response/satisfaction comes from those that utilize their window space to it's fullest with a full colour window wrap. Simple text and big images that grab attention to...
  2. 631 wet install??

Just finished a few solid color, full window wraps this evening using 631, and applied wet. Install went just fine, and the 631 is a breeze to work with. The client wanted the matte finish to match the full color stuff we did on his other windows last summer, and 631 was the only matte product...
  3. LED backlit Boat Name

If you look at the last picture, it looks like you can see the LED's behind letter, and I'd say there are strings of LED's, not just a few. My guess would be they follow the outline of the lettering, set back from the edge 1/2 and inch or so. It does appear to produce a nice effect!
  4. Collecting money....

On the sign side of things, I'm mostly COD or prepaid, other than a few good clients. With them, it's net 30, and they are all pretty good at paying on time. However, I am still growing the sign business, so it's not really a large dollar figure anyways. With my main business, everything is...
  5. Matte Black

IDS Finishes appears to be the main point of contact for it in the US. I did find it at a few Sign Supply houses in the US, but their pricing seemed to be higher than the guys here in Canada ($6/sqft vs. $3/sqft here in Canada), which is never the case, telling me that there must be a better...
  6. Matte Black

Just picked up some Di-Noc Carbon Fiber from ND Graphics here in Vancouver. My rep said all their locations have the CF in stock, and sell by the Yard. He did mention they don't stock a lot of it though (they had less than 20 yards), and can take time to get more if they are out, as it isn't...
  7. Clear glass frames for vinyl....

I get a lot of frames from Michaels (www.michaels.com for a store near you). I believe what you are looking for is called a Floating Frame (See below). I've done a number of photo frames with personalized messages and names. Etched/frosted glass vinyl is my favorite medium for doing this sort...
  8. advice on installing window graphics

Hey Ron, Congrats on getting into the sign business and welcome to Signs 101! You need to sit down and go over all your install costs, such as time, materials, travel (if any), rental equipment (lift?), etc. You'll need to clean and prep the windows before installation, which has a cost in...
  9. misdirected anger at lowballers

And the irony is, I spelt 'Nothing' wrong! And another one in the post. Damn. Do I edit, or not. I think I'll leave this one alone. Glad to see you have a sense of humour Gino!
  10. misdirected anger at lowballers

Gino, First post had the following added to the second to last paragraph "and that is what draws me to it." to explain why I got in the business, as you seem to question it. The second post was edited for grammar and spelling. Nothing to hide on either one. They are still as "arrogant" as...
  11. misdirected anger at lowballers

Gino, I think if you read the post again, you find that I not once said I offer low prices, or undercut other shops as a way to gain business. In fact, I stated quite clearly that "I don't do anything cheap". I also never said I set up with the intent of purposely hurting others. I set up...
  12. Starting a Laptop/Mobile skin business, need help please

Welcome from the Canadian West Coast. You'e gotten lots of great advice here so far, I'll try to address a few questions that haven't been answered along with some advice. The gloss level is determined by the material the printing is done on (if you don't plan on laminating the prints), or...
  13. misdirected anger at lowballers

I seem to be the exact type of guy you hate then, because I don't appear to meet any of your criteria for getting into the business. - I work out of my basement. Why wouldn't I? It's over 1000 sqft of space that wasn't being used, and instead of paying off someone else's Mortgage on a...
  14. misdirected anger at lowballers

I think the most entertaining thing about the OP, and this thread, is that you live in a country built on free market capitalism, complaining about the effects of capitalism! Sometimes I think us "Socialist" Canadians are more capitalist. What you appear to be asking is that the equipment and...
  15. I am so sick of customers

I couldn't agree more! People tend to remember those that helped them get started. They can become your most loyal clients, if you would just be willing to give them a little break (on the price and the attitude), and perhaps some advice on brand building and marketing. They may not have...
  16. Copyright infringement??

I think there is WAY too much thinking going on. Unless you are using a copyrighted image of some Nascar car (which you don't seem to be), I think they are over reacting with the copyright concern. That said, if they are concerned, and would feel better without the number on the car, well, it...
  17. Matte Vinyl

As I'm sure you know, nothing is made to last forever. Some vinyls will last a few more years than others, but none will last forever. If the main concern is longevity, I would suggest you buy a vinyl made to last longer than 3 years, which I believe the Oracal 631 is rated for.
  18. Looking faux wood...

Have a look at these guys - http://www.arroway-textures.com They have a few different wood discs.
  19. All Graphic Supplies

What printer are you looking at? The AGS guys are all excellent to deal with here in Vancouver. Have been extremely helpful, even though they lost out on my printer purchase.
  20. Wrapping a car for $120 bucks

If he used the Oracal 631, there is no doubt he could have bought the vinyl for $120, as claimed. Just a quick look online and I found SignWarehouse.com sells if for .38 per sqft, making 300 sqft $114. Was it made for this use, not a chance, but, this kid made it work, and frankly, the job...
