We have an AXYZ 4008 - fantastic well built piece of kit, as per previous vacuum bed is a must. Go for the largest bed size you can afford / accommodate, we went for a 2500mm x 1500mm bed, wish we had gone for the 3 metre though
We being UK based work in metric. We run at 20,000 RPM with cutting speed of 20 - 30 mm per second in climb direction using 5 - 5mm 2 flute carbon tools. We cut just fine unless we are using a really cheap acm and then it can get ragged, but on .3mm skin it cuts beautifully
we use artcam express with several plugins we bought at the same time It is very powerfull and enables all types of machining. However since being taken over by autocad they have stopped supplying this entry level software. When it is no longer usable due to OS changes I will look at vectric...
In the UK you can purchase a ferrous vinyl sheet that you stick to the substrate and which magnets work on just fine. Here is a photo of some we used to make a map on 10mm acrylic
if it was just vinyl on the face and not the sides, we would just lay the vinyl on the substrate first and then route it, your router tool will get a nice clean edge
Are those cut out letters as apposed to engraved? I certainly wouldnt expect that quality if cut out letters. That said I have never tried to do them with an engraver, its more the norm to use either a laser cutter or CNC router for that type of work. Generally speaking it will be a combination...
As per my original response I think the part that is causing your problem is this - https://www.cncroutershop.com/uk_en/23117-usb-to-rs485-converter-box.html. This is whats used to communicate between your PC and the router and if the connection isnt there is will show as 'offline' as this...
Granted the toolpath software I was given with the machine is quite old but it was a very basic piece of software. I would seriously look at other options such as artcam express as far easier to learn and very powerful as well as a lot cheaper. All you need is software that will output nc format...
We have the big brother to yours, the 4008. We have had a similar problem in the past and it is almost certainly a chip has blown on the R485 controller. These are quite expensive to buy from AXYZ, we were lucky we found a small computer company not far from us who replaced the chip for £10...
That’s true. No such thing as a free lunch... is worth your while trying a USB to serial or parallel converter these are quite inexpensive a few quid and auto install. We used on for our graphtec plotter when someone wrecked the USB port on the plotter. Worked fine
our connector is a USB from the computer - to a serial port on the router. I would seriously look at contacting the seller though as you shouldn't be having these sort of issues on a purchase of that magnitude... We took a chance on our laser as it was about 20% of the cost of a UK supported one...
Didn't have any issues in that respect as it was via a usb cable. Our CNC router however connects via a serial port into the router. But the connecting box will only work with windows XP - unless we pay over £600 for a new connecting box. (Our router is an AXYZ 4008.) but It may be worth trying...
You often get that with chinese programs supplied with a machine, we had it with a laser cutter and it wasnt until a couple of years later we got a manual for it from the seller but like anything free it is very limited in functionality... With CNC there are so many variables that can spoil a...
Why not use clear plastic sign stands offs that you would use on the rear but mount to the bottoms of the letters the small ones are in 10 mm high so wouldn’t show that much. Or you could drill holes in to the bottom of the letters so the fixings are recessed ?
