  1. Creating a vector contour for a photo

Nicely done, I think I could come close to that speed with a tablet. The mouse is slow, as the old phase goes sort of like drawing with a brick. Best Ken
  2. Hand-painted work truck.

Excellent! If people notice, it is even better. Nice and clean. Ken
  3. Backlit curvable display panels

That is usually how it works......
  4. Backlit curvable display panels

Well, that is what I would have thought. Now that the boss is back in town, he wants to change the idea. He wants something to go in the extrusions that has enough substance to NOT need a plexi backer, now that is a bird of a different feather. Still backlit, but got to have enough strength to...
  5. Backlit curvable display panels

They are indeed interior, and only to be used for less than a week. I am open to suggestions to material I can print on. Thanks Ken
  6. Backlit curvable display panels

Hi All I did a search for either a supplier or material suggestion for this, but really seemed to come up empty handed. We are doing some panels to go in a backlit curved aluminum extrusion frame. These panels are 47.875 x 91.375 inches. I had previously printed these on a sign white plexi...
  7. UPS put me in collections!!

Interesting, UPS seems to be a big scam. I noticed that we occasionally get charged a surcharge for a shipment that actually weighs more than it was billed at. Since the scale I use is a bit on the overside, I normally use that as the package weight, but when stuff is dropped at UPS, it always...
  8. Big Hybrid vs Medium Flatbed for display and signage?

I have no background with a true flatbed, other than watching one at a nearby shop. We have the AGFA Anapurna Mv which is a hybrid with the roll option.I can that in our case, the varnish has been a total waste of time, only used it once or twice in the time we have had the machine since...
  9. Laminator Rollers Up or Down?

  10. Onyx Crashing on Certain Font

Hi All I'm wondering if anyone else has run into the same problem with Onyx, mine is version 8. I struggled yesterday afternoon. I had a bunch of formatted stuff for coro, that was a listing of vendors by row, so each sign is different. I composed the signs in Indesign CS5, copied my lists out...
  11. Cardboard sign base

I'd be interested in getting these as well. I do not need huge quantities, but perhaps a run can be made to keep the cost reasonable on a per piece basis. We have used these for several years, they hold the half inch foam board, we have two sizes, one that holds 24 inch wide boards, the other...
  12. today on a very special "what's wrong with my printer?"....

I totally agree here. On our machine, I think we were one of the first to have one in the country, and it is still not easy to find many. While our dealer did help, and get us some much needed training, it did not cover any kind of repair or maintenance, short of minor things. However, I do read...
  13. Why do designers really not understand us sign people?

Absolutely correct! It is not just setting up art for our business, but any sort of use outside of your own computer. Whatever it is they are designing, unless it is strictly internet, is going to the outside world, which means either a sign shop or a print shop. So many of these folks do not...
  14. Why do designers really not understand us sign people?

I think as much as anything, designers are not taught the mechanics of making things work. In fact I sort of doubt most folks instructing have a clue of how things need to work, and how to explain to students how to make things work. My background is as a designer, and I am from the era that...
  15. Anyone letter on galvanized metal?

There is specific primer for galvanized metal, you need to clean it first, if it is factory fresh, then prime. Otherwise, the paint really does not hold. I only did this for to repaint my galvanized metal running boards on a caboose, not for lettering, so your actual mileage may vary. Ken Miller
  16. Sad - Sad news.................................

Sorry, but in interest of accuracy, Alison the reporter, was not leaving the station. She had just recently moved in with one of the stations anchors and they had been in a relationship for some months. The cameraman, Adam, was recently engaged to the Morning show producer, and it was HER last...

More years ago than I would care to count, I worked for this TV station as Art Manager. It is a sad situation and sad scenario for our country. I feel for the families they left behind, and hope the shooter gets his just reward for his actions. Ken Miller

  19. Blue reflective Chevron tape for hazmat trailer?

Seems like all sorts of blue reflective, with 3M Scotchlite being the big brand, is available. That is a layout job that seems less than fun. We use some red reflective on our trucks. Best Ken Miller
  20. Booth ID (Identification) Signs for Trade Show Industry

Wow, someone who does the same kind of thing. We are a trade show decorator and I do an average of about 1,700 of these things a month. Ours are a standard size, 7" x 44" tall and we used the POS Mason Street Printer for a good while. You can PM me to chat off the list on this if you like. Best Ken
