  2. Material Fail?

Could it be a laminate suitable for indoors application only? Or is all material you have for outdoor use? If it's a laminate used only for paper posters etc. indoors it could happen some strange stuff outdoors, shrinkage of the laminate for example...
  3. Printer Maintenance

Manual cleaning once a week or every 2:nd week if I don't feel for it on friday afternoons when I always do the cleanings. Have two SP:s. Replaced the wipers on the older machine when they started to look bent. Other that that, just print, print and print...
  4. HP L26500 Buyers remorse?

Does anybody know how the print quality compares to for example a Designjet Z-series large format photo printer? That (Z-series) printer produces absolutely stunning prints, but only/mainly for indoor use. We have a Z-series but I'm looking to perhaps replace it with a latex if the L-series can...
  5. Trello...How Are You Using It?

I use it as you described it, Chad, with different lists for different tasks/machines, e.g. design, digital print, vinyl, lamination, assembly etc. I'm the only one using it for now, but after new year I think I'll have to get another employee involved in it too, but it works very well even if...
  6. Laminator question

No, not hot laminate but heat assist cold laminator, that is the "cold" laminator has the possibility to warm up the rollers to about 40-50 degrees Celsius to give a better finish. The hot laminators go up to around 150-180 degrees Celsius something, a different machine and a different laminate...
  7. Laminator question

Go for a powered takeup of the backing liner, a manual takeup will be a hassle... You should also consider if you need a heat assisted laminator, the end result is much better... Just my 0.02c...
  8. A Job Board that works for me

I started using Trello this year and it works very well. It's like an online version of the whiteboard, but it takes a while to get used to put in all jobs in the system...
  9. Avery 900 Supercast bad lot possibly?

+1, why should you need to deal directly with Avery, if you buy a car you don't go to Ford headquarters when your radiator blows, you talk to the dealer. Same way, talk to your supplier and have them send you new material or sort this out (refund?).
  10. it has arrived

Ooh, Christmas came early! Now I want one too... !

  13. tipping UPS or fed/Ex driver for holidays

If I'd try to tip my delivery guy he'd probably try to give me a receipt of the payment or desperately look for change coins in his wallet. Or he'd look at me like I'm out of my mind and destroy yet another batch of packages at the next delivery... No, tipping is not normal here either, maybe at...
  14. Laminate separating from vinyl?

Had this happen once. It was when I started out and outsourced my lamination to another place. Apparently they ran out of my laminate, didn't tell me and just grabbed another glossy laminate roll that they thought looked good. It did until you touched it, the laminate was pulled off with the...
  15. Reasonable percentage for "Finder's Fee"?

We co-operate a lot with the local offset press, and they have their own inhouse pre-press department that discusses the layout of the vinyl/decals with the customer, prepares the artwork and gives us print-ready files. We print/cut and apply it at our shop. For this we usually give the offset...
  16. Need to outgas?????

I'm also curious about this, some say wait some say don't. We usually wait to the next day just because of workload, but when in a pinch I've taken the print right off the Roland Eco-Sol printer and laminated with heat assist. Worked very well and looks brand new many years later...
  17. Why is Print Quality so low?

Your nozzle check is OK? I get similar result if I run a week and get some lint on the heads, after a manual cleaning it resolves back to good quality. It also looks like that if I have wrong media profile or contaminated media, for example from hand/fingerprints, dust etc.
  18. Problem Customer (You can almost see it coming!)

Ugh, those types of jobs (hurry + tiny budget + new customer = trouble) usually are those you say to yourself to avoid every time, but I at least still goes into the same trap every time thinking "well, how bad could it be". You have probably done everything and more you could for this customer...
  19. Help clear coat peeled off during decal installation

Customer did agree directly that it was a fault in the paintwork, so no worries about this one. They will re-paint the area and we'll letter it again after that.
  20. Help clear coat peeled off during decal installation

Didn't seen this either until tonight (full moon and all =)... brought in a customer's van that had some yellow lettering on it that I need to remove. The van is a couple years old, the lettering was put on a couple months ago. When I started to pull off the lettering the first half of the...
