  1. Show your rides?

Mercedes 560 SEC -87 in the summer. Mercedes Vaneo van for everyday shop use... Or the bicycle when it's not snowing and -25 degrees celsius... Some nice rides in this thread!! :cool1:
  2. Do you use a Print/Cut System or Separate Print+Plotter

For me the print&cut systems are great, since we do a lot of small contour-cut decals that doesn't have to be laminated. Recently I've noticed it could be good to have a opus cutter to do the laminated decals and vehicle graphics, since it do occupy the printer when cutting. But I wouldn't like...
  3. When do you change your ink tank HP5500

The machine will tell you to change when it's time to. You can run it to 0 without any problems at all, at least I did when I had my 5000. You could get a faint line on the print when the machine runs out of ink and stops and you put a new cartridge in though...
  4. VersaWork freezing everyday (few times)

Of course you've done it, but I have to ask anyways if you have updated VW to the latest version...? Do you have automatic updates activated? That could sometimes be a culprit (according to my tech in the older versions) but don't know if it reacts like you describes it...
  5. Sigh... employee cut into the bottom roller...

We had some more training today with the guy and he was really, really sorry for it, don't even think he noticed he cut the roller when he did, but from now on he only uses the safety cutter "snitty", and not anywhere near the rollers so I guess that's that. We'll see how long the roller lasts...
  6. Sheet Cutting

We also have a SP-300V and it doesn't do that, don't know what it could be though. But I don't think it should do that...?
  7. Thoughts

Have you already spoken to the customer about the job after you quoted it, e.g. did they tell you that you didn't won the bid or did you just find out because they had the decal installed when you now saw it? In that case you could call them and ask how it's going with the quote and if they have...
  8. Sigh... employee cut into the bottom roller...

Yep, we have those too, from now on it's the only thing going near the laminator. Stupidly I thought that just telling the employee three or four times to be VERY careful with the rollers and DON'T cut near them would have been enough, but... And it's masked vinyl, not that super expensive...
  9. Sigh... employee cut into the bottom roller...

My machine is a 54" with heated top roller, but I'll post the price for info when I get the quote. It's a German made laminator, Biedermann, and has worked exceptionally well. The sad part it's only about 6 months old... Good point Signtime about peeling the back first, I'll have to try that...
  10. Sigh... employee cut into the bottom roller...

Yeah, figured out it could be an expensive fix... It didn't show anything when I laminated so I guess I'm lucky for now, but maybe it could get bad later on perhaps? Well, time will tell. I too think I maybe worry too much when it was the bottom roller but glad to hear you might survive even...
  11. Sigh... employee cut into the bottom roller...

Oh, and by the way we did just do masking with transfer tape and not laminating so it was no need to go there with a knife...
  12. Sigh... employee cut into the bottom roller...

Thanks for the replies!! Feels much better already. I laminated some fairly long prints and didn't notice anything weird, so I guess it helps it's the lower roller. I think it could be worse if it's the upper one, but I've already requested a quote for a new roller so I'll know if I need to...
  13. Sigh... employee cut into the bottom roller...

Yes *lol* I feel like I'm in the mood for that, I always try to take good care of my machines, but when the company is growing (started out as a one man shop) it happens more and more crazy things that costs money...
  14. Sigh... employee cut into the bottom roller...

I have a new employee that has used the laminator for masking vinyl, and today when I went laminating some prints I noticed a cut in the bottom roller! I have instructed the employee to absolutely NOT cut anywhere near the roller and to take extra caution about this, but of course I should never...
  15. Color Management

Your printer har four colors, cyan, magenta, yellow and black that it uses to print images. Your monitor mixes red, green and blue to show you the images. The mix of RGB gives much more possibilities than the mix of cmyk, so chances are you've hit a bright rgb red that you can't find within the...
  16. Laminator is my new best friend!

My production skyrocketed when I got a real good quality laminator, use it to apply vinyl and apply transfer tape a lot. Couldn't believe how much time it saves!!
  17. Options you'd like to see in VersaWorks?

Agree with those, but doesn't VW have "snap to baseline" button, next to the rearrange tiles button at the top bar in the preview window? Had the same problem until I found the button. You drag the copy to about the right place, selects the copies and click the button and they align as tight as...
  18. Vinyl on trailer covers

Avery has a product, 2200 SignFlex that is meant for application on flexible curtains/curtainsides on trailers etc. Don't know how well it works though but you could check it out. I don't know if it's available in the US or if it goes by another name...
  19. Considering the VS540

Don't go with the metallic+white unless you already have a lot of jobs for it... Otherwise a great machine, wish I had one (I just run the SP540i but I've been demoed the VS). If you have a truckload of extra cash, consider the new soljet 4 perhaps? That one has reversing take up reel also and...
  20. need versaworks

Versaworks is not free software. You can use the windows drivers for the moment if you need to try out the printer maybe? You can use a lot of other RIP:s with your printer, not only Versaworks, but I'd say Versaworks is well worth the money.
