Just an update for everyone. After checking volatages and talking to Gerber today, they feel that my power supply is fine and they are leaning towards there being an issue with the big pc board. They quoted over $3,500 for a new board with a $500 refund if I send in my old one. I about dropped...
I replaced the carriage PCA today and once it fired back up it took me back to the "replace printhead" screen. This time, it was showing the #4 YK head instead of the #3. I swapped the two heads and the problem moved to the #3 spot, so I figured that head was bad. I swapped in an old one that I...
So here's a rundown on all of this for anyone who is following along... I bought the printer used, it worked great for a few months and then started telling me the #3 printhead needed to be replaced. I could pull it out and reseat it and it would work. Then it got worse and more frequent and...
This is an Edge 2. I was wondering about swapping a head in like you say to test. Hielorojo, I searched eBay but couldn't find the $100 head. Maybe I wasn't using the right search terms to make it show up, I'll do some more searching. I called the plotter doctor earlier and talked to him about...
I swapped in the new head cable this morning, it didn't change anything. So now I'm looking at the boards as netsol suggested but other than that I'm stumped. I know I'm not getting heat, but I'm not sure how to narrow that down to pinpoint a problem. The tech at Gerber told me the thermostat is...
Well the reset didn't work. This cable doesn't look like it's going to be fun. It goes through a grommet at the back hinge that the cable ends probably won't fit through, and I can barely see where it plugs into the printhead. I may be calling tech support again to at least get me going in the...
That is definitely a new one for me. There really must be something in the air.. I'll never understand how a machine works great one day and then you fire it up the next day and it's a disaster.
It was in the $100 range, I'm wanting to say $120. It's a lot for a little short cable, but if it fixes it it's much better than the $3,000 they hit me with for a printhead!
Ah I forgot about the hard reset... I'll try that first. My new cable came in today, has anyone ever replaced one of these? Any pointers would be appreciated, the last thing I want to do is tear it up more than it already is!
I finally got it figured out after a call to HP tech support. For anyone reading this in the future, you have to make sure the little brown locks are in the "up" position, then insert the cable and flip the locks down towards the PC board. It is opposite of how you'd think it works.
I have another thread detailing my problems with my L25500. I am replacing the carriage cable assembly, which is all of the printhead ribbon cables. Apparently the top ribbon cables that go into the slots on the board that have the little brown locks are not making a good connecting because the...
Ok... I got the dummy heads out and swapped the new plate and cables in. Everything went smooth until I got to plugging the last ribbon cable in. The top right cable, for the LM/M heads was a nightmare to get in. I finally got it popped in, but it doesn't stay in. The little brown clip pops up...
I finally got the correct replacement part in today. I'm working on getting it swapped out, but I can't get these stupid "dummy" printheads out of the carriage. Does anyone have any tricks??
I checked all connections and could not find anything wrong as far as that goes. I called Gerber tech support and they told me it is either the print head or the print head data cable, but they recommend trying the cable first because the print head repair would be around $3,000. Ouch. So I have...
I will try both suggestions tomorrow. I printed a couple jobs on it two days ago and it worked fine, so it's odd that it won't work today. Not to mention this is a very low usage, like new machine.
Sorry I should have been more specific. I did all of that today trying to troubleshoot. I also ran the cobalt blue test print through the control panel on the printer, it printed a line of tiny, barely visible dots up each side of the vinyl, but thats it.
I have ran different jobs, foils and vinyls. All used in the past with no problems, and it continues to do the same thing. It almost seems like it isn't heating up.
