  1. Whats the difference?

RAID 1 which is two mirrored drives. If you can swing it, RAID 5 (at least 3 drives) or RAID 10 (at least 4 drives).
  2. Servers for Dummies

3551RA is a hi-perf calendered film, so not quite as conformable as 3M 180C, but the 3951RA is "to DIE for" in regards to conformability, ease of use and adhesion.

Thanks Mike. I use OraJet 3165 for the bulk of my printing. I like the 3165 better than 3651 as it's a bit thicker, which makes handling a bit easier (not quite so floppy) and is better for small RTA-type decals, plus is better for full-bleed contour-cuts as the edges don't lift nearly as much...

  6. CNC Routers . . . Best Value with Performance

I've looked into the ShopBots, they seem to be high quality and affordable, but what do I know...
  7. Servers for Dummies

'nother question...is it better to use a switch or a router? I'd need 5 or 6 ports to connect everything I'm planning on at the moment (2 or 3 workstations, server, desktop printer, wide format printer). And what about a firewall, does it reside on the server (if done that way) or each system?
  8. Servers for Dummies

I know it's way overkill at present, but Dell is having a really good sale on select servers. If you choose the right base server, you can get up to 35% off. I'm looking at a Poweredge 840 with a dual-core Xeon processer, 2GB ram, 4 160GB hot-swap hard drives on RAID 5 (but I think RAID 10 is...

  10. Profile Software

I got my EyeOne for just under $1200 brand new off of ebay. Beyond that, you also need te get training to learn HOW to profile. Some things you can learn on your own, but you're SO much better off getting training.
  11. Profile Software

I have the EyeOne Proof (which is both the spectrophotometer and related software) and Wasatch SoftRip. This is all I need to make profiles. I think even the bundled Versaworks allows you to make profiles with it. However, I don't know about the software that comes with the Mutoh products.

Yeah, I actually stumbled acrossed that yesterday...looks promising, but we'll see.
  13. Servers for Dummies

Question, can you use the "server" as a dedicated RIP station as well, or is that not a good idea?
  14. Servers for Dummies

Hey iSign, did you set up that network or did you hire it out? Do you personally maintain it or is that outsourced as well? A bit overkill for my current needs, but I like to overdo things too!
  15. Servers for Dummies

I read some reviews of it on NewEgg and most were not-so-good. Sounds like just a networked PC would do the job. I really like the idea of some sort of RAID configuration for data redundency. I've had several HDs crap-out over the years and that just plain sux-@$$ when that happens and you've...

  17. Servers for Dummies

Sounds like what I already have is a pretty good start towards a server or similar setup. My main sys has twin 160GB IDE drives (on an Ultra 133 card) and an external 250GB USB HD. I back up stuff daily, but my main desire is to have a central file location for primary working files, so that...
  18. Servers for Dummies

I want to either build or buy a server to maintain a central file location for our files. I really know next to nothing about servers and networking, but have read a little just to get familiar with some of the terms. On the low end of the spectrum, looks like a guy can get one of these simple...

Yes, the layers will open in PhotoPaint. Some of the proprietary PhotoShop layer effects do NOT work in PhotoPaint, but other than that, you can use them with PP.
