  1. How not to get the job

Wow, talk about a fun "interview" ... told some srq design-rats about the job opening, ones I would refer were pretty committed to their current job. Sorry I couldn't budge them in your door.
  2. Municipal Morons...

In a town I used to live in, they constantly tried to get banners like that on the rail road overpass. They ended up stopping that practice since the local homeless were stealing them and using them as tents.
  3. detect size not working

Alrighty, so I'm trying to get the shops plotter (roland camm-1) to have it's roller width detected in flexi (flexi 7) for smaller pieces of material. For some reason it is just locking the software right up. The roland has MM for measurement and of course flexi is set to inches so I think...
  4. Ugh, another day with a supplier that is failing.

And I'm a fool for a little supplier loyalty because of the awesome service I got before but only recently am having troubles? Nice. :U Rock:
  5. If you could start over what would you buy and why

Well I've always held onto the belief that sign shops should do more than just pump out graphics. Like everything else, they should be a little more diverse in the products they can supply, in the attempt to specialize to specific markets. The things I made the most money in was not normal...
  6. Ugh, another day with a supplier that is failing.

Oh, I loved grimco when I had my shop In orlando. I could get just about anything and go pick it up if I wanted ... Still have my account there when I get my own shop again. Little on the pricier side, but I never had a problem with them.
  7. Ugh, another day with a supplier that is failing.

Well I don't mind a small wait time, our supplier makes weekly delivery runs through the area so I don't have to pay for any shipping and I know UPS (Ooops!) hasn't kick packed my vinyl in their trucks or spilled unknown liquids on it (happened before). It's just a degradation in service since...
  8. If you could start over what would you buy and why

When I start over again (moving a few times leaves me working for others after a massive relocation) I will get a rather large solvent printer and go after the corporate art market for interior signage. While I want a cnc router, don't think that is in the first 4 year plan. I still have my...
  9. Ugh, another day with a supplier that is failing.

Our supplier moved and ever since then it's like pulling teeth to not get rolls of vinyl that aren't seamed or take 2-4 weeks to get here for the basics (white, yellow, orange, etc) last week we got 7 rolls of vinyl ... 5 were seamed 1 came on two rolls and the last ... no seam. Sadly the rolls...
  10. Cowboy Font

Looks like pointedly mad to me http://www.dafont.com/pointedly-mad.font
  11. Wood sign

Like everyone said, clear coat first. Make sure the clear coat and paint will match (i.e. no spray paint on urethane or oiled enamel on acrylic sealers, etc) ... clear coat doesn't need to be overly applied, I've gotten by with one coat of clear enamel on my enamel jobs since the first layer...
  12. Cheap wrap company van critique please

where the heck is the yellow comic sans outlined in pepto bismo pink tribal flames!?!
  13. Can you teach me to print shirts???

Atleast he isn't asking how to use a cricut. I get one of those a week.
  14. Hood Stripes

I have no idea what the art looks like so I wouldn't be able to give you the best suggestion for the specific job. I know that I have wet applied flat sections before, works great ... paper tape is perfect for that since like others have said you can wet the top of the paper tape and it will...
  15. Remove Back Ground

clipping mask, select similar colors and delete, alpha channels, and probably just going around it with an eraser slowly and systematically are going to be the 4 easiest ways to do what you want. plenty of online tutorials for that. really bad photo though. REALLY bad. I would get a better...
  16. Going with a new look ...

I have never been a fan of the logo icon on the side of just text names. unless it means something ... i would try to integrate it better. try something on the top of the words (like i did attached), try integrating into the words or being illustrative and making the words FORM the wave, etc...
  17. IPad. Is it worth it.

there are a few windows tablets and more and more android tablets in development for the market. Sooner or later they will make a solid splash and I will probably buy a couple for convenience sake. I probably won't go with an Ipad though ... preference really ... that and it would be the only...
  18. Deposit how much to keep

So, my big question is ... if none of the photos will do ... why not go illustrative with it? it wouldn't take much to vector the image. I mean, one of the actual useful features they added onto illustrator in the past ... 5 versions is the live trace. Live trace is horrid for actual artwork...
  19. Deposit how much to keep

Well, I'm about being fair to the customers. IF you CAN refund, it should be for the amount of the deposit minus materials and work completed. You can always tell him that you can reserve the materials for X amount of months if he does decide to use you again and that the amount you can not...
  20. Giclee printing... Where to begin

If your art friend was getting $22 a sq foot that is pretty good. Back in college I was paying about $40 a sq foot not including the spot color fees, and professional photography and color correcting I paid a few times for. (when it's REALLY large for the original ... it's worth it.) I...
