  1. strange pattern

I had similar patterns while prinitng w/ a mimaki - it ended up being the self collecting roller pulling too tight. Do you have a self collecting roller on the roland? Possibly adjust this pressure as well to the minimal needed, ditto on the back "drag bar".
  2. Buying A "real" Cutter

If I were to buy a new cutter today, I would go with the Q series from sign warehouse. I think Graphtec makes them (although I heard there are made in Taiwan, and Graphtec is a Japanese company right?). Plus if I had plans to grow it would be nice to know I could add contour cutting later – and...
  3. Encad Novajet 700 60" Wide

Lease a solvent printer, maybe a smaller sp300 this will do cutting and printing. It will cost more than other printers but will be less headache and under warranty. You could buy a used one also. Again I think a cutter will be the most bang for your buck on a limited budget.
  4. Is there a difference in flrxi 8?

Does it handle printing previews better? My version always crops or looks uncentered unless I reposition the objects to the "drawing board" area. Did photoprint get any better?
  5. JV3 media sensor

Eforer, is the black strip that runs along the length of the machine, (under the media) dirty? I think this is how the sensor knows how wide the media is (it sees the contrast between white media, and this dark strip). Try cleaning this (a q-tip and alcohol?) it may work, the retaining tabs are...
  6. Encad Novajet 700 60" Wide

I agree with techman, have you been paying retail prices for your banners, and signs ect? Find a good wholesaler - it sounds like you know enough to submit files in proper format, speak the lingo, ect. to not incur extra fees. Do you have a vinyl cutter? I would definitely recommend a cutter...
  7. Mimaki trying to print "white" areas

anyone? Could it be the Rip is rasterizing the file before output, and including the blank areas in the "rasterizing"?
  8. Mimaki trying to print "white" areas

My mimaki is always trying to print (head moves back, forth over area) where it should be blank, happening in both flexi, and Wasatch - when I let the mimaki override rip settings it doesn't happen (the option logical seek fixes problem). Anyone know how to enable this feature through either...
  9. Ebay think twice before buying LFP printers

I just moved to IN, sorry I dont know him, didn't mean to come off defending him either. Just trying to help. Best thing to do is go small claims, no need to pay a lawyer, and he probally won't show whic' is an automatic win in your favor. Pay a sheriff to serve him summons. File in YOUR county...
  10. Female shop owners

My mom owned her own shop, which got me in the business (free labor, fresh out of college... damn computer science degree)
  11. SP-300V & Banners

How are you guys seeming these together? hot air banner welder, or tape? 3651 vinyl, and 13oz banner cost about the same per sq foot, buying a banner blank is usally cheaper plus it's sewn and grommeted, so unless you have a full color design w/ a lot of coverage, what your doing now works...
  12. Your Top-Ten Fonts?...

BOUDLER x 10 dunno why but love this font - Hey if any of the sign “PHds” types could type out there 10 favs in font (eg as a pic) I would love to see that.. .time permitting, Thanks, Ali
  13. Ebay think twice before buying LFP printers

Creative, It sounds like paypal reimbursed you and you still have possesion of the printer? If this is the case your are up, use half the money from pay pal to repair the printer, and you got the printer at half cost. Or sell the printer as - is with a proper (non working printer) listing and...
  14. Movie themed fonts free

Im sure it's been addressed before, but best font management software for WINDOWS? at like 3k fonts, every piece of stoftware takes forever to load, and Photoshop sometimes crashes when viewing fonts..
  15. Rip & Print

Your printer must not have poll size option, (why it's greyed - or maybe your printer has driver / flexi issue) I would try doing one set of reg marks for each decal - it will take up more space but maybe can solve your problem.
  16. One More Laminator Post And I'm Done!

We have one of those at the old shop also, it worked fine for the most part, but we always needed 2 people to work it right. A laminator is not a terribly complex machine so to pay 8K+ for one seemed absurd. Of course it also depends on how often you use it - I personally am looking for one...
  17. Still pre-masking by hand..

Hey everyone, I have been pre-masking everything by hand for a while and am interested to see what the forum thinks is the best tool to “upgrade” to. I have used the weber-made masking tool before and like the idea of the double shaft version, but think it’s ridiculously expensive for what it...
  18. Looking for a good laser color printer

With most cheap HP's you pay more for new toner than the printer itself hence the printer costs "nothing" haven't had much sucess with toner refills (konica Minolota) but would appreciate advice on where to go for refills with a HP2600N. I would get an all in one for the simple fact it can make...
  19. which RIP do you use ?

I have both Flexi and Wasatch, For banners and posters (and wrap soon) I use wasatch, but I use flexi for most print and cut stuff - it’s just easier to use with my mimaki Equipment even though I have print and cut with wastach. As far as color is concerned since I don’t make my own profiles...
  20. 300 to 540

I agree, sell it to somebody looking to get into the digital printing game, 30" machines are a great entry level, especially at used prices. It will sell nice on ebay.
