  1. Ipad price.

I gave $499 + shipping for my stripper iPad and I am extremely happy with it. I just can't believe WalMart couldn't strong arm Apple into letting it discount the things. The only good thing about the fixed price is the resale is better I guess.
  2. Ipad price.

I am *not* an Apple fanboy (I am an AMD fanboy however), but I have had an iPad since May and it is the next to the best gadget I have ever owned (best was my first DVR). That said, it makes me ill to see this product offered at WallyWorld. Of course, it is interesting it is "price fixed"...
  3. There goes another supplier selling to my customers.

Hey could be worse. They could be like Pepsi and *give* the stuff to your potential customers. ;-)
  4. Do you write off..

The general public has no real understanding of what a "writeoff" is. Reminds me of Seinfeld where Cramer tells Jerry that the Post Office will write off the cost of his "damaged in shipment" stereo equipment. Jerry says "You don't even know what a write off is do you?" What irritates me...
  5. Opinions of Graphtec CE5000-120 48" Cutter

What do you notice as the biggest differences in the units? Small shop so speed is not that important to us.
  6. Opinions of Graphtec CE5000-120 48" Cutter

Currently run a Graphtec CE5000-60 (24") with excellent results. Am considering getting a CE5000-120 (48") so we can handle larger contours off our printer. Assuming it is the exact same machine, only wider and much more expensive. Would love the 8000 series but too high $$ for our needs...

  8. Your sign estimating software

Exactly the same here. Too much like a "used car salesman" pricing tactic for us. I picture the cost being a percentage of your shops gross sales.
  9. Big Squeegee

I suppose the question is, what lams *do* work well with the BS? Anyone?
  10. What was it?

That looks pretty cool if it works as shown. And it appears to be priced slightly below the 5x what it should cost pricing of most other sign related tools. I see they have a MBG. Maybe worth a try.
  11. Mutoh 1304 cleaning question and wiper vendor

Looking at the head assembly of the 1304, how do you or do you clean the gap between the head and the ramp on the right side of the head? There is a sponge in there but appears to be a space between the head and the sponge that could use cleaning. I was told by a printer tech that a pipe cleaner...
  12. Do you leave your printer on 24/7?

For some anecdotal evidence, up until now we always left the machine (1304) on 24/7 (In sleep mode when not printing). The other Friday our power company was down so I turned off the machine for the weekend. Turned it back on on Monday and worked perfectly. Have been shutting it down overnight...
  13. Too many sign shops!!

Right on the head. We get this *every day*. "How much is a sign" and "Ballpark price" are two phrases that raise my feathers these day. Always with no explanation of what they want or expect. But you know what I've found? When someone says "Oh my, I can get that same sign for $xx in xxxx. I say...
  14. Big Squeegee

We have the 56" and ruined enough prints that it sits in the corner now, unused. It is most likely our lack of technique and if we had 4 guys to run it I think it would be a good tool for us. We also have several of the 26" that get used every day. Be advised that the Oracal lam *does not*...
  15. Laser Engraver Recommendations

Thanks guys(gals) for the replies. CES020 your verbose reply was particularity appreciated. I spent about an hour on the phone with Universal this afternoon. Very informed person helping me there. Looks like a very high quality machine, but all but the lowest end model may be out of our...
  16. Laser Engraver Recommendations

Adding laser engraving to our shop. I would appreciate any real-world recommendations you guys might have (minimum usable wattage, etc), and maybe even more, any brands/models that are known to be troublesome. Not looking for top of the line, but not looking for junk either. Production...
  17. I wish Pepsi would take a long walk off a short pier

I don't mind a company having an inhouse "sign company", such as a grocery store printing their own pricing signs, but that is not what I'm bitching about. In my example Pepsi isn't making them for themselves, but rather for customers that could be ours (by ours I mean us sign makers as a...
  18. I wish Pepsi would take a long walk off a short pier

The customer that brought in the banner was not my friend, just a customer.
  19. I wish Pepsi would take a long walk off a short pier

I am getting so tired of losing business to a multi-billion dollar company that sells death potion for $5 a gallon and then gives s**t away. More and more my customers are getting freebie banners from Pepsi/Miller Lite/Fill in the blank beverage company. Many of these folks are my friends...
