If its the Signgold. No it has a Tedlar laminate already applied. But I do advise to do a Trap black (Or whatever color) HP vinyl outline to protect the edges or seal the edges with a Seal-It Pen.
Don't hold me to it But Yes I think Illustrator does that also except in EPS mode.. When ever a Client sends me a file I require them to take all fades out and I will apply them myself in Signlab or Photoshop

Sound like your steps/scaling might be off may be off.. draw a 10 inch box. then send it to cut. Do you get a 10 inch box. if not your scaling is off and you need to adjust it in your cutting master program.. I am not in the shop so I can't tell you the exact steps.. Mine is like 1028 or...
Do your Gradients in Photoshop or whatever Corels version is called.
Have seen this problem in a few vector programs.. Corel, especially has a problem exporting gradients due to it breaking it down to a million different color vector lines along with Corel's seriously crappy color management...
Also Instead of just buying a plotter and kicking out items that every other fresh meat is Look at your market.. What does it lack. Is there a Shortage of Dimensional work, (In PA I doubt it), Truck Lettering, Ect..
